My husband currently drives for Roehl but in wanting to be home, he has applied for a few local jobs. We are concerned about putting in a two week notice if he does get a local job. If that job doesn't work out for whatever reason, he wants the option to be able to go back to Roehl. He's been talking to other drivers who have been telling him horror stories about after putting in their two week notice at Roehl, they were sent as far away from home as possible and then told they have to give their truck to another driver waiting for it and then having to find their own way home. Also were told that they will just not give him any miles.
I was just wondering if any of you have heard anything about how Roehl is when someone is leaving the company amicably? Or any thoughts on this?

    Thanks in advance

I've quit at Roehl 3x. Each time I gave 2 weeks and usually I get routed to the nearest terminal after a few days. If anything they might have him turn the truck in early. If he's got a good relationship with his dispatcher it shouldn't be a problem. They've never stranded me.

TICC, Puppage and DrtyDiesel Thank this.

Hi TICC, 1st, love the UP (der hey), Copper Country, Houghton, points north, I've heard that too about Roehl, but more on their 7 days off deal. I thought Roehl was a good company, and have told several people that. I guess a local job would trump that, though. I've looked for local work in the UP, and it's almost non-existent. Generally, I've found, when you quit a job, they take it real personal, and won't talk to you again. Could be wrong, as of all the jobs I've had, I only went back to a job once, and it still sucked. Good luck. Where you at in the UP? Ever been to the Yoopers Tourist Trap in Ishpeming? Great place.

    TICC Thanks this.

ive been with Roehl over 2 years and have never heard a story like that. what I have heard is they may have you get to a terminal early to turn it in.

sounds like truckstop restaurant counter stories to me....

    TICC and HauntedSchizo19 Thank this.

Well, that makes me feel better. I told him I thought it was just big talkers talking out their butts. I will let him know what you all said.

The only reason he is looking for a local job is because he wants to be home. It's the only thing he doesn't like about the job. Has a fantastic fleet manager, too (sorry, Haunted, I'm not at liberty to give the name out). We are up in the air about the whole thing because he does like driving for Roehl so much and that's why he's nervous about leaving on bad terms. The job he's applied for right now, though, may be exactly what he wants.
"semi", you are right about finding work up here. It gets harder and harder to get anything. We are both Yoopers, born and raised, and it is hard to leave (even on a cold and snowy day like this one- I'm in the Gwinn area. And I haven't been to Da Trap in years lol).

    Thanks again everyone :)

I too gave two weeks notice and I had a good relationship with my dispatcher. As long as you quit on good terms they'll most likely welcome him back if the local thing doesn't work out.

If he quits on good terms they'll welcome him back with open arms. I've never heard of stories like that.

Treefork can confirm it. Roehl is very good about re-hiring employees that quit on good terms. I even get a card every other month asking me to come back. They stopped after a year of quitting.

    Treefork Thanks this.

Hi TICC, did some snowmobiling around Gwinn once, beautiful area. There seems to be some work in the Marquette area, and Iron Mtn. area, Gladstone too, but that might be getting pretty far away from you. Lot of trucking around the Palmer mine. Also, Gunville in Niagra, Wis. always has ads on CL. Good luck.
