It's refreshing to read so many threads with guys that are happy with their jobs. This is true for me too. I work for a FedEx Ground contractor pulling doubles most of the time. I run teams, I have an awesome co-driver, we do just under 1100 miles a day on a dedicated route. Weather in west Texas messed us up a bit last week but hey, it's the holidays. It was nice to be home a bit more. We're out 5 and home Sunday and Monday. Plenty of opportunity to grab an extra load if you need the cash. Boss is no less than awesome, super nice guy.
Unlike many of you, I am relatively new to the biz. I have nothing to compare to personally, I just know from the stories I have heard, I am doing pretty well.
God bless.

You are lucky brother I use to work for ground also money was great. Then I discovered tanker yankeer work best of luck and welcome.
-
I have wondered about going there myself and dedicated runs are always the best way to go and team at that. A good co-driver can make a bad day great.
-
A happy camper here too... I'm a lease op with Forward Air, have been with them for over 4 years on the TLX division and I love it.

I haven't always had a great co driver. Took me 7 months to get a dedicated run. Before that I was jump seating. Rode with many aye-holes.usually takes between 2 days and 2 weeks to figure out if you have dkwad.
First order of business for me is non smoker. Next is a non pig. After that it gets easy. The Patriot Thanks this. -
I have worked for 2 years for the same contractor out of Sacramento, great guy and was lucky to get a great co driver right out the gate. We do open board but get good runs to the east coast most of the time. If you don't mind teaming and can get your head around Fedex dispatch it's a good gig. My guy recently gave a pay raise, 52c a mile if you don't need the benefits, 46 with full benefits. Also get layover pay for more than 24hrs and motel. 1c bonus at end of Dec for all miles that year. Hear a lot of people griping about Fedex, but my experience has been positive.
P.S. Just realised I sound like a recruiterRubicon and Jmlviper213 Thank this. -
In the wrong industry for non smokers and pigs.
dennisroc, average joe and Redwinger Thank this. -
Hey Redwinger, I'm starting my ground career out of kennesaw ga next week. I've been nervous about the doubles and doing teams. The money per mile and being home for two days a week helped me make the plunge. It's good to read that you and others are doing well with ground. I'm ready to get started and hoping for the best.
-
Awesome. Doubles aren't as hard as people make them out to be. It's just more work to hook them up...and be careful where you put the nose, because if you need to back up you'll be breaking your set apart to get turned around. Other than that, it's a sweet gig.

If it doesn't go well for you don't put your head down, not all contractors are good. Just search for another one that pays good and treats you well.
