My fuel is black--like the exhaust got in there somehow. Got a Davco bowl with a Det. 60. Engine sputters & puffs smoke going up hill in low gears. Just change EGR, cooler, delta p sensor. Still same. Any thoughts?? Thanks

You have microbes growing in the fuel. You will probably need help dealing with this, just putting in the biocide products will leave you with a fuel system plugged with sludge, unless you got a charge of bad fuel somewhere recently.

It's called diesel algae by some, but it's actually fungus or bacteria.

Look in fuel tank, with engine running, at fuel return line area. If it is bubbling like a low pressure air hose in a water bucket it could be bad injector seals. Be sure there is no air in fuel lines entering head.

It's Algae, dump Power Service Bio Clean in it NOW!!!!!! Get several fuel filters, you'll go through them till the algae is gone.

Thanks for all the advice. It's in the tank as well. I don't see any bubbles inside the tank but then again it's difficult to see inside the tank. I'll give that bio clean a try.

Carry several extra filters and a wrench. Put some clean fuel in a can so you can fill your filter before putting it on.

Also run it as low as you dare ... Then only put in enough for the day, treat again ... Takes awhile for it to grow, so if your fuel is gonna sit for awhile, you need to treat it!

Most marina's have treatment on hand ... Also a tad a gasoline will kill it too, but new computer systems don't like gasoline! ;)

    Touch the black residue..

    If slimy, you have algae
If gritty, you have an air leak in the fuel system
