I do a lot or rural road driving, that's how I knew what the difference was. My typical work week is on eastern Kentucky 2 lanes in rural areas. I could push my average mileage up to 22 mpg during the week running 45 to 60 around the county. If I hit the interstate on the weekend I easily pulled it down to 18 to 19 at 75 mph. Dropping to 70 didn't help much. There's not a significant difference between 63 and 55 so far as I can tell.

If Dodge had offered a higher gear like a 3.55 instead of the 3.73 being what I have, I believe at 70 it would get 22 at just over 70. It's very much rpm related. At 70 mph, I'm turning 2200 or so. At 63 it's about 1900. Anything over 2000 rpm and it starts sucking fuel in a big way.

I have 373 in my Dodge,5.9. I run 60-63 loaded. Empty 66-67. Just running around town and between the other towns (rural) I have kept it at 55 and the mpg on the liars display have been over 24. This means 21-22.

The only one that gets much over about 21 in those cars is the "tree hugger" version. The hybrid. I think it can do close to 30. Or from the EPA guesstimates on the window sticker.

The V6 doesn't do more than 21 and the I4 might do close to 24/25.

Lets not forget driving those bigrigs at 55mph too. I have a friend who has been doing it for years. He claims he is getting over 11mpg.

I have known him for over 25 years. He has never lied to me before, and I have no reason to suspect he is lying now. Why would YOU (who doesn't even know him) suggest he is being dishonest?

    You said it...I didn't LMAO

I'm thinking 250 cummins, pulling 5k average loads, at 50 mph, with single axle truck and trailer. Overall length 50 ft.

    And still ain't buying it.

I got 24 out of the Escape once.................. and I was hot dogging it thru CO traffic. It was anomaly. Must have gotten some serious high test in the cheap grade tank.

I know I wasn't off when I filled it up, so I didn't short gallon a fill to get that number.

Our escapes are great vehicles but they don't get good enough mileage. I rode my bike through the chevy dealer today and he had one car on his lot that advertised better than 25 mpg highway. It was a Malibu. ONE CAR! The balance was trucks and SUVs that got under 20.

We are a nation of crazy domestic brand car companies.
