most of western Canada wants a weight valve for lift axles " as soon as you put a load on trailer it drops the lifted axle" don't know if anyone is checking for them. You can put a hidden override valve in to make it work when in cali

Not sure if the OP knows or not but 121" spreads are forbidden in QC on a 53'.

Hi there. This what I was thinking. Please correct if this is not possible. Most dual axles are setup for 34K standard weight rating (permit not needed) I took a standard set of dual 20K axles that can be permitted to 40K. Is this not true? If so, are you saying a tri-axle setup can not acquire a permit to haul 60K? (Example tri-axle trailer (60K) tri-axle Tractor (60K) Front axle 16K Total weight capacity 136K (Weight limitation is the limit of the equipment) I also think in some cases like Michigan, permits are not needed for heavier than normal weights. Hence how I got to 20k per axle 3 axles at 60K. Again, I know taking into consideration tractor or trailer weight is included.

Yes, in the states you can permit a tandem for 40,000, some states will even go up to 46,000 on a tandem, as long as the tires can carry the weight. On a triple you can permit it for 60,000 pretty much everywhere, axle spacing will.come into play on that though. In WA state for example, if the axle spacing is 4'6" they will only give you around 58,500 but with a 4'7" spacing you can get a little more than 60k.

Most states will give 20,000 per axle Il will give 25,000 per axle. In Ohio we can get 48,000 on a tandem with a 66" spread, up to 160,000 on 8 axles and 25,000 per axle on a jeep and stinger super load trailer.

Really sucks that all the states can't play together. Some states want something over another in order to trip up the carrier/Driver.

Welcome to the non-standard configuration area of the industry...not all jurisdictions play equally because this area is NOT federally regulated.

in Michigan you are allowed 18k on an axle but it has to be 9ft from any other axle, this is without a permit. You are allowed a max of 164k on 11 axles without a permit.

Wow...Oscar the KW, question, 4'6" less weight than 4'7". Interesting. Spread axle trailers in some places get treated the opposite. The wider the spread, the it's possible 1 of the 2 will not be included. 10" wide in Canada means the only see 1 of the two axles. Interesting.

My 2 Cents.. One has to think about current freight rates.. when thinking about the price difference between a 2 or 3 axle stepdeck trailer. I've got a Doonan Blackgold 51 ft, 2 axle. The freight rates today has fallen off so much, its like we are back in the early 90's.. Everyone wants to blame the Oil Prices but that has nothing to do with freight rates, only Fuel surcharge..
The overweight permits are more expensive and for stepdeck freight. I , personally don't think its worth spending the extra money for adding that 3rd axle..
I have friends with 9 to 13 axles, and their rates are off also, just not as bad as stepdeck freight. Too Many wannabees went out and bought them, and supporting this cheap freight !!
