Good afternoon everyone! I'm new on the forum and would like to know how often should a truck be set to regenerate when parked? My boss was told that it has do be done everyday when you get to the yard. But I have noticed all of the trucks that require Regenerating constantly break down. My argument has been that maybe it should only be done when it is required, since the truck does it on its own through out the day. So it seems like we are pushing the system everyday which is causing the trucks to fail very often. Any advice appreciated! Thanks

The cat system sucks plain as that.... If a cat is constantly asking for a manual regen it means their are problems. And not doing the manual regen isn't an option so you've got to do it.......most regen every 200-300 miles.

There's been like 1000 updates on the art head not that it helps.......

Well it's not asking for the manual. For example it was cleaning throughout the day I just got to my yard and activated it to manually regen which today only took 30 min. So my thing is why do we have to activate the regen manually if it's not asking for it. His idea is if we manually clean it everyday, then less problems down the road.

Once my former '08 Cat sdp was fixed right by the Cat house, it would go 2-3 months without a stationery regen.
of course with time all sensors and regen parts get stuffed oF soot and then you'll go back to the Cat house

That's what I say if it's not asking to do a manual then just wait till it requires it. We have to manually activate it everyday and I think that's why they constantly break. Thanks for the input

Ya mine will not let you do a manual regen unless the ECM tells you to. You can push the button all day and if the ECM isn't asking it ain't happening .......in my experance if it's asking you're headed for trouble ......

Volvo Trucks with EPA 2010 Volvo engines don't do active regenerations on the road as its set up to clean itself during normal operation passively but our shop does run periodic forced regenerations to keep things clean via the Volvo Link software. Otherwise it won't let you run a parked regeneration unless:

A: the soot level gauge is at the #2 mark, triggering the Park Regeneration needed warning.

    Or

B: The SCR system NOX sensor detects low performance due to DEF crystals plugging the SCR catalyst and triggers the parked regeneration needed warning and SCR Performance Low warning. This sometimes occurs during below freezing temperatures since the Volvo emissions system doesn't do on road active regeneration. It's called a crystal sublimation cycle. The DPF gets cleaned as a bonus.

Not running the crystal sublimation cycle asap can trigger the 5 mph derate condition.

In other words every engine has its headaches, lmao.
