Been reading the truckers report for the past year since I started driving. Just decided to join in case I want to post or ask a ? of someone.
Little about me:
Got CDL on my own after my dad suggested. He was a parts man for International for many years told me could make money in the oilfield with CDL.
First gig was for experience 7 months driving a 2013 Mack Granite automatic bobtail dump truck in Dilley, Tx rock hauler or calichero as they say. When my truck was down got thrown in a 9spd in the yard to unload rail cars and start learning how to drive the standard trucks on my own just off being told how not really shown floating gears. Left that job after weight was cut back since getting paid % off the haul paid by ton could no longer earn a decent check. Got a ticket over weight 20,000 lbs $6,067.00 that's why weight cut back. First ticket 2nd day on job same amount over only $1,650.00 owner brushed it off cost of doing business but new law change and stiffer penalty ended that.
2nd job ran an ad on Craigslist got picked up by an owner to drive his truck hauling frac sand. Explained to him I had only driven standard in a yard he took the risk and took me on. Well I'm working on my third month with him driving his '99 FLD120 doing OK $ wise just looking for more like this better than the rock hauling less time on the road and less racing for another load demurge helps out.
Well once again hello and if you read my post thanks for taking the time to do so, and keep on truckin'.

Do you know of any frac sand companies that hire Recant CDL-A graduates?
-
Where are you from or where are you looking at working?

Welcome. Also newbie from TX, but I got zero experience.

I live in Granbury Tx but im from Dallas/Fort Worth area and can commute to Stephenville, Burleson, Fort Worth, Weatherford etc... I would like to haul frac sand because the money is good. I'm getting my CDL on my own. So I know it is going to be harder to find any kind of work. I know a guy that has a dirt and gravel company that hauls in dump truck that I might be able to get some experience in but I know I wont get the experience in hauling trailer or even better! Hauling tanker with shifting materials.

Get experience any how you can make contacts by driving the dump truck then try and jump on with someone who has a belly dump, so you can get some combination experience. Then just start to look for a Frac sand Hauling company that isn't top shelf just so you can get some pneumatic trailer experience. Then make a jump to a better company like 1845 or maybe cab Logistics they do pretty good. West Texas is hurting for drivers might be able to get in quick over there with companies like Bear, Sting, I was at 3N in Odessa and did very well.

Post an ad on Craigslist, check the ads on Craigslist. If they charge post it in the for sale section for free. My first Frac sand Hauling job I got off an ad I posted on Craigslist the guy needed a driver we met I didn't have combination experience or 10spd experience but the guy gave me a shot. He still calls me and asks how I'm doing with my work and asks if I can recommend him drivers. Put a small cheap tool set together and let them know you have your own basic tools: $20 Harbor freight chain, cresent, pliers, screwdrivers, air hose, air chuck, air gauge, air gun, basic stuff they see you have stuff they like that owner operators that hire drivers they like that means you can take care of basic stuff. How to do things if you don't know how YouTube change a small radiator hose something like that. Learn to blow out air filter of truck and blower if it has one. I'm now an owner if a guy don't have basic tools I wouldn't hire him. If he's new I don't know if he has years under his belt and doesn't have it forget it I'm not asking my driver to be a mechanic but just to be prepared for little things. A pair of vise grips will get you home if your brake chamber goes out.
