I can't believe no one mentioned the Youtube videos, I checked and there are a bunch of those pertaining to offset backing. You have the computer, I don't know about the connection but if you have a way to access those, it would give you more perspectives.
I wish I'd gotten a radio controlled toy truck to practice with, but I just kept doing it getting better with experience. Worst thing was driving a spread axle off pavement and backing as much as I had to, that is no way to learn to back something that is consistent. It is a good way to learn to get out and look, though.

This advice will really help you. My instructor had a saying "Little Richard Sings Really Loud"... LRSRL for offset to right, which stands for Left, Right, Straight, Right, Left... Meaning Left all the way until half of landing gear, Right all the way until certain rivets on side of trailer, think it was second row, Straight back until rear tires hit "line" where you want to begin turning into, Right all the way until half of landing gear, then Left all the way until in the spot, pull up if necessary after inside the "box"... again stopping at every adjustment to the wheel. Of course offset to the left was just the opposite, RLSLR. The main reason you stop also is to judge the "corrections" necessary to attain your goal. Also, youtube as mentioned has many excellent videos, and there are many other ways to accomplish the same task. Just sharing what my instructors taught me. Hi shellyshell, now, no venting, we want to help. I would have killed for a site like this years ago. Maybe I'm missing the boat here, but all this about parallel parking and alley this and that, just doesn't make a lick of sense to me. 1st, in all my years, I never parallel parked a semi, and generally, the places you go, in an OTR setting, are pretty much truck friendly, meaning, the lots are pretty big and backing in is a snap. Remember, backing is a small part of driving a semi, and don't let anyone rush you. BTW, did you change your Avatar pic? I liked the other one better.

You mentioned driving a shuttle bus. Maybe the difficulties in handling an articulated vehicle are not for you. It's ok. Some drivers just have a hard time with it.
Do what makes you comfortable. You can probably get a Class B fairly easily. You can probably land a regular day job doing that.
You have to love big rigs and have a consuming interest to do well there. If you don't feel that, do what you CAN do to be successful!

I agree with the others; don't spend more money. Go to a trucking company school.
Prime Inc. is good because they have simulators to practice with when not on the road.
Southern Refrigerated Transport pays for community college CDL school in Texarkana plus provides hotel room and 3 meals a day. No money needed from you. Coast-to-coast refrigerated operation.
Celadon - free lodging and 3 meals a day.
CRST - teams; you can share the headaches.
KLLM - community college deal like Southern Refrigerated.
