Impossible to give any kind of answer to that question there are just to many variables
blairandgretchen and Cetane+ Thank this. -
Most of the RVers I have seen with a class8 truck pulling campers dont care what it cost.
-
It's pretty much a case of "if you gotta ask, you can't afford it."
texasbbqbest, unholy7, kewphotog and 1 other person Thank this. -
There are so many variables in that question... Are you talking about a full class 8 RV, or a semi tractor that you're trying to register as an RV?
If you're talking about a semi tractor, there are certain things it must have before you can register it as an RV for personal use. One of them including a toilet. So that eliminates just about 95% of the trucks on the road as qualifying. You will most likely have to file for authority (DOT number), 2290 IRS Heavy Use Tax, and be apportioned and or permitted to travel into whatever states you are planning on traveling into. You will not need a MC number as you are technically a private carrier and are not for hire. So figure apportioned tags, IFTA, 2290, UCR, and all of your permits, you're looking at about 2,000-3,000 annually right there. Add that to operational cost, maintenance, break downs, and repairs. It's not going to be cheap.
If you're talking about a class 8 RV, you don't need DOT authority registered as an RV, so no apportioned tags, no IFTA, no 2290, no UCR, no permits, etc. Cost of equipment acquisition will be much higher but your operation cost will just be fuel, maintenance, break downs, and repairs. So the age, make, mileage of the truck will determine your operating cost.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
You might have a better answer over in a RV forum.

Way to many if ands or buts for this question, like? How many times a year will you be operating it? How many miles a year will you put on it on average?
-
$per gallon = $/mile
mpg

You don't need 2290, you don't need an IFTA sticker and you don't need apportion plates.
You need to make that truck into an RV, which means in many states adding a toilet, and other things to live in it. Then you need to register it as an RV.
The costs outside of that is the same as a Prevost, maintenance, fuel and so on. The insurance should be the same too.
