May I ask how many loads you've done with a tanker...?
While I agree tanker pays more and is a better gig than most I would never say it's easy money.......
P.S. Almost 30 winters pulling a tank... It ain't easy, and the rates are not what they once were....

What kind of food delivery pays this well? Companies like Sysco? What type of hours do you run? How labor intensive is it?

Have no idea how many loads; did it for 5 years running 48 states. Most loads were acid, but did all types of chemicals. Made $65K and was on the low end of annual pay at the terminal because I took a month off every year to travel overseas. Hardest work was hooking up a hose or climbing on top to hook up air or open a dome lid.
I don't know anything about the rates because I was a company driver. Worked for Tankstar.Cat sdp Thanks this. -
Not every shipper/receiver loads or unloads for you.....
Try doing 5 loads of gas or fuel a day.... Your outside in the weather all day. And the bs factor from the oil terminals / stations / general pubic is threw the roof.... And don't spill a drop.
Company drivers for the majors were paid well. Now almost all of them have dumped their trucks. The regional bulk haulers don't pay as well. And have driven the rates into the ground.
Just wanted the newbees to hear both sides....you are home every night tho.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Cat sdp beat me to it.
Tanker can be easy but you have to look at the loads and what kind of tank you're hauling.
Our guy who runs chemicals hardly ever has to lift a finger. Then on our side hauling gas, I'll run 4 loads in a night and be completely exhausted by the time I get home.
Hauling gas I load/unload myself, print and sign my own bills, and every stop you're dragging hoses and doing a large list of things then putting it all back on the trailer.Cat sdp Thanks this. -
With most local jobs, you're going to spend a lot of time outdoors. You've got to dress for the weather. With my uniform, even when it's 15 below, I feel like it's a warm day in July.

You can get outfits similar to mine at Gander Mountain or Bass Pro Shops. -
Also if you haul fuel, walking down a double hose of diesel while it's raining is a lot of fun....
