Avoid IITR Truck School in Clackamas Oregon

    Lets look at the complaints:

    Give you the answers to the test day one. You can go to the DMV and get the answers to the tests and if you read the book you have the answers to the test day one.

    Show you how to back up and then let you practice for a week. The more you practice the better the understanding you get. Would you prefer one day of backing and no more? Lots of practice is good.

    You admit you think they are uneducated 5th grade people. You think most of the people in your class are idiots. Do you think your attitude might have set the stage for how you get treated?

    If you can't take criticism from trainers you are going to be on the ground crying your eyes out when you interact with a forklift driver having a bad day.

    I lean in thinking this is more about Elite than it is about IITR.

    Reality check:
    I am going with Occam's Razor on this one.

    Just take everything in. You can learn from uneducated people as well as educated people. Your going to need all the practice and knowledge to prepare your self for the day you go solo

    I would rather learn from someone with experience than someone teaching out of a book. I'm sure those stupid stories had a meaning behind them so you will be able to relate to them when it happens to you.

    It is fair to point out that not all of the instructors at IITR are idiots. Jim was very professional and a good instructor and Jeff was also good at least for the early lessons. But.. It only takes a few bad apples to ruin the whole bunch.

    A trucking company without employees is called a parking lot. A trucking company with a bunch of a lousey drivers will soon be a parking lot. A trucking school is no different. Nobody wants to learn from some clown that spent most of his free time in life on a bar stool destroying his brain. I don't think it is unreasonable to expact more of an instructor than your average trucker.

    When the various companies came to recruit, I was not interested in the one that promised the highest CPM, I was looking for a company that hired quality people for me to work with. In the end, that will be the best long term employer. It does no good to win every battle and lose the war. The company that wins the war is the one that treats their employees with respect and demands the same of the drivers.

    Look at who already won the war, UPS and Fed-x for example. The drivers are intelligent, healthy and well socialized people. Once that is in place, everything else should fall into place nicely since a company is a group of people making millions of little choices a day.

    Of all companies, Schneider was the most appealing due to the answer to a question I asked the recruiter "Why have you stayed with Schneider for so long?" He gave the answer that I read online. Nice people with high expectations of themselves and others will in the end, win the game. May trucking was also appealing along with a few others.

    Life is too short to have to endure the belligerence and ingnorance of others in order to earn a living. The are good companies and good drivers out there and I want the best training available so I can excel at this endevour and join them. My point was that I didn't get what I paid for at IITR and some of what I got I would never pay for. IITR gained nothing for pissing off half the class.

    Boy have you got a lot to learn, just for starters all a truck driving school does is teach you how to get your CDL, don't expect much more.
    Of all the companies that are recruiting drivers out of school, well just decide what color truck you want to drive and don't buy the recruiters BS, pretty much all the same.
    Some are a little better than others of course but most drivers move on as soon as possible to greener pastures from the starter companies.
    For the record I have driven for both Schneider and May.
    As for getting what you paid for at IITR,if you got your CDL then you got what you paid for.

    Maybe UPS and FedEx drivers are nice and intelligent, but they're some of the worst drivers on the highways. They crash and burn on a regular basis, year round and especially during the winter months.
    Once you're on the road, you will learn quickly to avoid those trucks and just back off and let them go; if you don't they will go anyway.

    If you want a good company in Oregon, look at Leavitt's Freight Service. This company hires new CDL grads.

    Wannabe.... I hope you do a little gear grinding, especially while learning. Why would that be a big deal? Why would they care if you double clutch? Most drivers I know over 90% dont use the clutch anyway. They showed you how to back up. You will only get better by doing it over and over. And you still wont be good for a long time. Sounds like you may need to choose a different career, if you cry like this over a little ribbing. I hope I get to read your post after you get ripped apart, when you drive to slow down a hill, or dont move over, and cause trucks to pass on the right. IT happens. You get personal by calling names and saying they only have a 5th grade education. You will never make it.
    You wont say who you are? your afraid of retaliation? What could they do? And you want to be a truck driver?

    Thanks for the heads up but I'm looking for a company that mostly hauls no touch freight over the road. I have heard Leavitt's pays well and is a good company from others but what they do is very technical from a driving perspective and very physically demanding when it comes to load securing. That violates my work smarter not harder while minimizing risk policy.
