Cummins was a bankrupt waiting to happen between 2008 and 2012 so it's a bit of a gamble. I would assume all of the updates and bugs should have been worked out by now and the trucks already gotten it's bankrupt a o/o award.
I would absolutely get the one with the def. Very big gamble with the one with just the burner. -
And you'll more than likely get better mileage from the def one as they don't have to regen near as often and regens kill mileage. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input, I,m hard pressed to decide, haven't heard to many complaints on the def units but other people I know are saying stay away from them.

My worry is that truck b with 600,000 k miles, is that too many for a used 2011.

The big problem is that people always remember the bad stuff that happened to them or the horror stories they've heard at the flying j. You'll never see a forum post titled "boy has this truck given me 5 solid trouble free years, just thought I'd tell yall"......... but you'll see alot of post when stuffs breaking.
The big thing to consider when looking at a used truck is to talk with cummins and ask what updates have been done. A guy tells you he had huge troubles with his going throught doser valves would make you not wanna buy it but then the gup at cummins will tell you they found the problem and updated the parts and now it's fine.
Prime example. Guys still say to stay away from the volvo d16 because they have turbo problems. If you Google d16 alot of complaints will fill your screen about the horrible turbos they have and how everyone's gonna sue volvo, it would make you definitely not wanna buy one but if you pay closer attention....... all the posts about it end in 2009 when they found the problem with the turbo manufacturer and put a update on. Problem solved.
Sorry for story time, my opinion would be call cummins and ask about any emmission updates, 150000 miles is alot of extra km. Heck that's a extra years work right there.
