I first ran the PA Turnpike in the mid to late 80's I think. I never realized there were "old" sections. I ran across this video on youtube. It's worth a look for the new and old timers, and there may be some super old timers here who've actually driven through these tunnels???

If you're on a good, speedy network, and/or data usage is not an issue, choose the highest resolution you can for maximum enjoyment.

It's amazing that after 46 years of being abandoned, the road is as open and clear as it is, and looks to be in "fairly good" shape. One would think it would be more overgrown than it is. Thanks for sharing this, I enjoyed watching it!!!

While I never drove thru them--I did ride thru them as a youngin--and have always enjoyed ridin cross the pike and pointin out the old sections of road---which are mostly still visible--if you know where to look--and the eastbound bottom of the old road---down from the old sideling hill hole in the wall--is still one of the best spots on the pike to park--
The Pa green stamp has always been one of my favorite roads--unfortunately along w/the pike commission working very hard on Engineering all the FUN out of the road--they have(for all intents and purposes)PRICED all of us off it...except in very rare occasions...or very small stretch's...
But some of my fondest earlier memories...are of runnin an old R Model across there w/a smooth bore tanker only bout 85% full of heavy cream...yee-haw...:biggrin_25525:

One of the reasons I love PA is the fall scenery. Thanks for sharing!
