That's funny. I drove for viking freight back in the day and that job was not satisfying. Same route different freight day in and day out. The only challenge is when you get lift gate required and you have to lump freight from the nose because no lift gates were avail. Line driving is just as boring as p and d. What is satisfying about shuttling trailers? Blah, I have more scenery to view otr.

    Lepton1 and skyviper73 Thank this.

The thing I see with mom and pop shops is they are cheap when its come to repairs or maintenance. It takes an act of congress to get things fixed. Its when they have the attention of dot is when they get things moving. And here I'm thinking mom and pop shops tend to treat you like family. More like a step child I think.

That is one thing that makes trucking kind of satisfying. There is something for just about everybody, if you want to work. And if you get tired of what you are doing, you can go do something else.

Thank for all the responses! Hey Don...they do have Snoopy on the door...lol!
I noticed about all of the drivers are older guys like myself...so maybe a good sign.

Blue Cross Insurance paid for the driver as well as life Insurance.
Short term and long term too...Dental,vision so those are all a big plus.

All the trucks are 13 and 18 speeds set at 72 mph....I can live with that.
All have APU and a fridge.
Most of the trailers look about new with aluminum wheels on all axles.

Starting me at 41 cpm, I thought was a little low with my experience but they said you get a penny at 90 days and a year.

Was hoping a TTR member might drive for them and give me the inside scoop.
They are about a 35 truck operation I think.

    Big Don Thanks this.

I've been doing nothing but Houston to L.A to San Francisco to Dallas and back to Houston and I'm bored as can be. I can't imagine doing LTL.

My best gig in driving was kind of like LTL...
It was delivering to movie theaters with a lift gate and electric pallet jack.
I could deliver anytime day or night because I had keys to all of the places.
Roll 3 or 4 pallets in and lock the door and go.....EASY job! Loved it!
No appointments,no shippers or receivers to deal with.
Drive when I wanted and sleep whenever I felt like it.
Got to deadhead home empty every week too!

Most weeks I would knock my runs out from Sunday to Wednesday night and be off 3 days a week.
    Averaged 1200 to 1400 a week.

Too bad those good gigs like that are few and far between!

I enjoyed my LTL time. Particularly the local P&D. The reefer LTL jobs I had early on, not so much. And as far as uniforms were concerned, we were furnished shirts with the company logo and our names on them. Other than that, it was our choice. Living in the desert, shorts were a natural. Combined with lace up safety toe boots, worked very well.

I honestly didn't give a rats rear end of somebody got blinded by my white legs, or did not like my attire. It was fine with my company, and most of us dressed the same way. Comfort was what I was after. Not trying to make a fashion statement.

Now I'll admit that somebody wearing shorts and cowboy boots, (schidt kickers,) NEEDS to be laughed at!:biggrin_2559:
