i read on here where DOT would use a plumb bob to measure side to side and dinged a driver for oversize with tires flat. I can't recall the state though. this is a good question.

Say what? Anything that purposely allows the tires to rub against the deck is a bad idea. If they rub unevenly in a turn you could wind up being the lead story on the Five O'clock News while they're trying to get your truck back on it's feet again.

    passingthru69 and Hurst Thank this.

Just make sure that loader doesn't have those "fluid filled" tires. That could be a mess.

I run step deck and haul tall equipment/vehicles a lot.

I'm not sure about the bulge,.. I've never personally been hassled over it. My method is to drop air pressure down to about 10 PSI and use snap binders to 'crunch' down the height as much as possible. I wouldnt recommend less than 10 PSI as you dont want the tires to break the bead to the rim. I can air the tires back up when I reach delivery. Time consuming,.. but beats an over height violation.

My lower deck height is 3'2,.. 13'6 is legal height,.. though I have carried loads that sit on the deck at 13'9 - 14'0 with out permits or issues. Just pay attention to bridge signs.

Thanks Hurst, Finally got a relevant answer to my query. Was kinda wondering which the discussion is headed everything from personal bulge to trailer tire bulge.
Semi Retired thank you for the heads up also. Tires are air filled not fluid filled.

Most States allow 14' without a permit.
