Short answer is yes....why give-up what you know is really good , for you and him. For the certainty of starting all over again..... at the bottom...I would rather start putting all I could into a retirement vehicle such as precious metals/coins or a Roth IRA ...do that til he is 59 1/2 then retire...
Are we crazy? Need advice about going back to OTR and a good company

A couple questions, who's idea was it to go team and does your husband really wanna quit Averitt?25 years is along time with the same company.I imagine they have pretty good benefits and a retirement plan.Do you really wanna lose all that?Im sure if teaming didn't work out Averitt would take him back in a heartbeat but he would have to start at the bottom again.Browze the forum and see how much trucking has went downhill from 30 yrs ago.

I think Patty is dead on....From what I have heard Averitt has great benefits.
Man if I was home nights and weekends, could pay my bills and put a little in the bank,No way I would give that up after all of those years.
I would retire and build my lake house where I own a piece of land already!pattyj, G.Anthony and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -

Why dont you see if you can do the daily runs with him. Maybe even stay in truck stops on weekends. See for yourself before you do anything drastic.

With this kind of seniority at Averitt just have your husband run the idea by one of his bosses, and see what they say. I am fairly certain they have the freight to allow for this type operation. That way if it doesn't work out, then your your husband just has to come back, and hope they let him switch divisions again. Most of what I have heard about Averitt over the years has been good.

Wonderful idea. Life's no fun without some adventure or risks. Lots of good companies out there that would love to have a husband/wife team running coast to coast. You've done your job by staying home and raising a family and being supportive of your husband; now, get out of the house and take care of yourself for awhile.
Look for companies that hire new CDL graduates; this way your husband can be your trainer when you complete CDL school. He could start with the new company the same time you start CDL school; this way he's gone through their orientation/training qualifications and can be your trainer beginning the day you graduate.
Two with the best reputations for husband/wife teams are Old Dominion and US Express. Old Dominion pays the best for teams.
Several others to choose from:
Pride Transport - trucks equipped with XM radio, satellite TV, refrigerator.
