So Carl...1 year later what do you think. Aside from your health issues, how was the year for you?

I would say 2014 was not a great year for us. Dealt with lots of unexpected challenges and a relatively weak freight market. That being said I am still optimistic heading into 2015. I think I have our van division retooled and ready to head in the right direction. Now to refocus on the open deck side of things. I really want to work on more heavy hauls this year. I think by the end of the year I will need to decide if it is worth while to go buy a 4 axle truck. I have the right driver, I just have to get consistent work. The ag side of machinery hauling is obviously soft, but I think the rest of the open deck world is pretty solid.

Well to put it bluntly, It sucked....
Changing companies and their great well maintained trls. bite me in the back side.
For being a bigger company, their rates for my setup is just to low. Then trying to get proven to the agents has been a tough row.
Working the load boards and some of those rates were just as bad. I was starting to see a slight increase towards the first part of the 4th quarter though
With the price of oil and gas going down, It will hurt our work, but I haul other types of things as well.
So we shall see how it shakes out.

thanks for your interest. I am not sure your home location would work the best based on current traffic pattern. We could probably make it work for a contractor, but I don't think it would work for a company driver.

Cpape, I will be moving to Iowa City next spring/summer. Army retiree with 9 years heavy diesel mechanic and driver; CDL since 93. 3 yrs driving motor coaches in Iowa for Windstar Lines. No OTR experience, but from a truck driving family. Hard work is no stranger to me. I am wanting to get into RGN oversize eventually. Also lived in Baltimore area for 7 years. What are your requirements for new drivers? Thanks.

We prefer drivers to have 1 year of OTR experience. With your background it is possible we could make an exception, especially if you were starting out in the spring/summer with some time to get used to a truck before bad weather.

Congratulations to Bryan Smith, who is a finalist for the Owner Operator of the Year award from the Truckload Carriers Association. This is the third time Bryan has made it to the final group of three. This is truly an amazing accomplishment. Let's hope the third time is a charm for Bryan.https://www.truckload.org/index.asp?bid=21
