Road is millage, They know how many miles it is from one terminal to another. You get 30 min pay for hooking a set and unhooking a set, also pay for fueling trucks, Working a dock is paid by the hour at your terminal or a hub. All city is hourly with overtime after 8 hours worked as a driver or on the dock. City drivers pull pups and vans, some liftgates also. Depends what the job calls for and what they have on the yard not being used.
Its a good job with a very good company, just do what they tell you to do and you should have no problems. I do know I will not be going any other place else. I also wished I found this job 20 years ago.

It's a great program, just finished up DDC skills weeks. I learned a tremendous amount about myself and driving. I however didn't make the cut and have to go back to partime dock until I requalify in 6 months and if a city position is open I start again. My instructor was great but was very by the book. Double clutching was my down fall, I was almost proficient but ran out of time.l

I am interested in the apprentice program but notice that it is only offered in two places in California, both of which are not where I want to work out of. After you complete training are you allowed to transfer to a hub of your choice? Also how long is the training and are you paid while in training?

Once you are hired within a position, any transfer depends on availability. There might not be any open position in the service center you want to work for for a while, and if there is, you would need to apply internally just like any other employee and interview. Training is paid, a little less than a driver pay, but once training is finished, about six-seven weeks later, the apprentice gets promoted to a driver position including driver pay.
