TB John's attracted to drama and popcorn. Needs a little salt thrown on...
FYI that joseph's been by my thread recently and he's welcome there, claims he's an Italian who knows how to cook in a truck and uses more seasonings than just salt, pepper, cinnamon and paprika (the only ones I'm familiar with).
Cool!!
joseph's first dispatch at Gordon was just over 2,000 miles, what's not to love?? You can find his old thread here http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...dventure-gordon-trucking-2.html?highlight=GTI and received something over 142,000 views while active. Controversial. Popular.
If Zoomy's Celadon experience serves him anywhere near as well as joseph's prior experience did him, Zoomy will do fine but even for experienced drivers, Gordon's a new world, a step up. I recall joseph saying recently that he wished it had worked out for him with Gordon (after the acquisition); well, joseph's resilient and he did well there, both for himself and Gordon.
Lots of drivers revolve through the Gordon door every year and for sure more than a couple sat in the seat Zoomy has now. Gordon has deep experience with new-to-Gordon drivers like Zoomy, hires drivers with good records who can drive and conducts orientations every week. Truckload, after all, has a 100% turnover so in many cases newbies are gone before 6 months. But legendary Gordon keeps chugging along.
Driving for Gordon's not trivial; you're chained to the QualComm. Every day. Touch your key in the morning, it goes off. Stop to pee, it goes off.
Gordon moves 2,000 trucks around every day, 24/7 and makes it seem easy.
Not quite effortless.
Zoomy did the right thing in the right way by laying out his cards with Gordon. How will it work out?? Dunno. A manager I liked a lot liked to say that she couldn't always help them, but she could always massage 'em. She meant it in a nice way but I could hardly stop laughing. Might not help, could always make folks feel better. Feel good sympathy. (Wasn't trucking-related.)
Is this just a Gordon massage to get more miles and some of the bonus back or will Gordon run Zoomy the way he'd like to run? Dunno. Probably some. Maybe a little of each. There's still a good trucking life for Zoomy and Hot Chick after Gordon or with Gordon. With a reputation for things that matter like safety, good equipment, running legal, hiring drivers with good records, Gordon will look fine on Zoomy's resume if need be.
Zoomy's gonna be fine either way. So's joseph.
And so am I.
I'm baaaaaack!!!!!!!!

Hi captain-
i haven't decided which school yet. Was thinking about roadmasters in San antonio, tx, but there is also sage, international schools in Austin and Austin CDL school. Want to get the best bang for my buck without loosing my shirt...lol -
I read you loud and clear. If I could do it again I would have gone to community college instead of a training company. The CDL is the same whether you spend $5,000 or $800 and any company you start with is going to put you with a trainer anyhow.
Keep us posted! You'll get plenty of advice whether you want it or not. 98% will be complete BS. (Truckers) The secret is to soft through the garbage to find the nuggets of real wisdom. You gotta consider the source.
Rotsa ruck!Dominick253 and Mhart1472 Thank this. -
I was going to get my original CDL from a truck company because the only real 'payment' would be time. Unfortunately, they rejected me during orientation, so I went on to spend my own $5,000 getting a CDL...and I'm glad I did. The school I chose, West Michigan CDL, gave me excellent training while teaching me to pass the Michigan test, which I did.
I had the money to spend because I had just retired from federal service and received payment for my annual and sick leave balances. Most people don't have that much in the bank without going into debt which is something I would not recommend. If I didn't have the money, I would have found another company school.
Give it a lot of thought, then do what's right for you.Last edited: Jan 19, 2015

For what its worth, I went to Central Refridgerated School in Fontana Calif and did the one year. Was worth it to me.

Doctor, to me: "Mr. Smith, you have to stop masturbating."
Me: "Why?"
Doctor: "Because, I am trying to examine you."
