Actually, as long as the air cleaner stays above the water level, it can be done. There may be an issue with the electrics on a newer truck, and there are vents on the top of the rear axles (or used to be) that would let water into the axle housing causing the water to be mixed with the oil. A couple of years ago, Milwaukee had some flooding and trucks were going through the water, swamping the stalled cars.

Diesel trucks don't have spark plugs.

I once drove my 1978 Ford F-250 Centurion through 4 feet of standing water (flooded intersection) on my way to the fire station. The tow truck driver who was pulling all the cars and SUV's out of that intersection stopped me as I approached. All I told him was, "it's a diesel" and he said, "Okay" and waved me through.

    Gotta love those diesel trucks.

Stupid people the world over. That truck driver would have felt kind of dumb if his truck had fallen into the hidden sink hole underneath that water. As for the bus crossing the dam, all I can say is, well, DAM!

The funny thing is, I can remember when a lot of county roads didn't have bridges, they just had "fords" to cross creeks. People didn't think too much about it back then. But then cars were just a bit more than an inch and a half off the ground like they are today.

I look at the ground clearance on my Freestar, and jut shake my head. I don't even want to take it over speed bumps in parking lots. . .

We still have dirt roads with multiple creek crossing where I live. We still say "Good Lord willin' and the creeks don't rise!"

    Big Don Thanks this.

I wonder if that was a company truck.

    "There's a car in there!" :biggrin_25513:

Probably not a good plan driver. Although I HAVE run through much more shallow (just below the door sill) flood waters after seeing other trucks make it through.
