Not sure about you. @ 14 years old Their was no difference between $100,000 or $1 million. Mommy and Daddy paid for everything, UNTIL age 16. " Want a car son??" Time to get a job. " 5.25 hr wow this sucks and no way i could afford $50,000 for college" Screw this crap, I'll go too the military and blow up crap errr so i thought. lol
Truck driving will always be here, Nothing fancy about it and can make very good living. But any fool can drive a truck, it's a back pocket career. I agree kid, go do something else first. Go get some Experience at life.
18 year old trucker?

Agreed. The military is the best way to go. If I wasn't half deaf I would have been in the navy.
Aminal Thanks this. -
Well that's what parents and scholarships are for, but I know what ya mean.
I'm just sayin if it was my 14 year old cousin/nephew I'd tell him to aim higher than a CDL. -
But why not have a Cdl as a backup career?
Shaggy Thanks this. -
My browser hates quoting 2 people, added the above and agree with both of you, More to life then a CDL, It's a honest career and can do many things for a family, but it's not a priority as a first career in the 21st century. Many other things a person can do without going to a university, A Technical school. HVAC / Plumbing / Electrical
a good friend of mine repairs elevators. Minimum $100k a year, -
I appreciate all of your ideas. However the whole college thing.... I'm not going to blow my resp and other tuition money on college if I don't want to do it. I know it is quite some time away, but sitting in an office staring at a computer screen all day does not sound fun. I am trying really hard to not be naive, but I don't care if I have a lot of money being an engineer. I would much rather have a low-average salary driving trucks. I am not especially interested in going to university for 4 years and blow ALOT of money if I'm not going to use the stuff I learned to make the money back. Maybe I exaggerated the "long" time I would have to wait. I'm just wondering if driving a truck is possible at 18. From what I see, working as a yard jockey until your 21ish sounds like the way to go. I'm sure there are SOME companies that will hire 18. Wel I hope. Also, I have been looking and to save with insurance and to have even a small bit of experience/credit I have been looking at this school: http://www.capilanotrucktraining.com
in short, I am not going to go waste 10's of thousands of dollars on a university education if I am not going to use the education to get money back. I'd rather wait 5+ years and become a trucker before I go to college. Trucking is cheaper in the beginning, AFAIK. -
The thing is, I'm not going to spend my life doing something I don't want to do. If I just wiped money out of the picture, I would choose trucking. I am not really looking forward to dredging myself through a boring job everyday. I personally seen people who come home and are not overly happy with there day at work. Almost every day. I get 1 life. I want to do something I am going to like doing. Regardless of how much money I get.Arielit0oo Thanks this.

Heres my advice: go to community college. See if the 2 years enables you to continue to a 4 year, ( you also save a lot of $$$$) AND many community colleges have Cdl training. So kill two birds with one stone that way
