So I'm in driving school currently and was told by a couple ppl in the business already that you learn about %75-80 of the business driving over the road w/ your trainer. This matters to me because I've been taking some of the tests at the DPS and realized theirs a stark contrast to how their worded in my study guides and how their presented in the exams , to point it's actually not furthering knowledge just being confusing , some of my classmates also realized this. We have 3 attempts to take each test before we have to pay like $60 dollars to take it again the first 2 times I took my permit test I missed them by like 3 or 4 questions each time ..so I was told to cheat and that it was really easy to get away w/ and everything. That I "miss out" on learning via passing a test will soon be regurgitated during the 5 weeks I'll be over the road with my trainer? Is what I'm doing morally wrong ? Or will I actually learn everything I need in training

    Chinatown Thanks this.

You want to learn as much as you can from the study materials. There's no guarantee you will learn all you need from a company trainer. Specifically, you need to have your pretrip down pat. You need to know the correct way to make right turns. Bridge law for 53 foot trailers.

Schools are are in the business of teaching how to get a CDL, not how to be a professional driver with all that encompasses. Know the Smith System by heart.
All Good Kids Like Milk. Aim High in your steering. Get the big picture. Keep your eyes moving. Leave yourself an out. Make sure they see you.

In my opinion you need to know everything when you get on the road since this CDL will be what earns you a living. So study study, and if you are not ready study some more, make sure before you take the tests you are 100% ready. The trainer will teach you how the company wants you to operate their vehicle, deal with the loading and unloading, and how to deal with their customers. Once you finish your training you are on your own, if you don't know the law and you start getting tickets because of it, you may find your self looking for another job because no one will hire you.

Just do what you have to do to get the CDL. The learning starts when you get on the road with a trainer.
Doesn't matter how well you do on a written test; just do what you have to do to pass. Many drivers didn't make it through high school, but they're excellent drivers and good people.

computerized testing, skip the questions you are not sure of, the program will not count the question. Answer the ones you are sure of.... when you hit the pass percentage, the test ends....

Basic knowledge is all you will have from a cdl school.... the actual learning begins on the road...

    1. Study the TDot manual and pass your tests. You cannot even get in the truck without your permit.
    2. The school is pbly teaching you the same stuff worded differently. Don't worry about it, just learn it after you get your permit.
    3. It's not cheating to learn two different ways of doing the same thing.

STUDY THE TEXAS BOOK. Hopefully you have one.
If you have computer/internet access, there's a couple online tests. Look for one specific to Texas.

    Good luck.

You have to study to pass the tests. You can't just expect to peruse the material for 10-15 minutes, walk in the door, and pass all of them.

The tests teach nothing, school will teach you what you need to get your "license to learn"...I'm personally against trainer time, but if you need it, so be it, hopefully you'll still learn in spite of that person...Good luck!...

Don't know what school your attending? But if I was told to cheat! I'd find another school, and would possible inform (if state sanctioned) of their teaching practices on how to pass a CDL permit test, you learn absolutely nothing by cheating, can you look at yourself in the mirror, and be OK with this? Morally wrong? That should go with out saying, best of luck
