what stuff would you be referring too. cuz what i explained. was taught by every local company i worked for 12 years.
maybe you could go argue with all of them. -
We all know how companies never twist things to serve their own purpose right?
There is nothing to argue about on the short haul exemption. Its all spelled out very clearly in the regs. You just have to not listen to those that constantly post bad info on this site. -
Many people just repeat what they have heard without regard to how many decades ago, who said it, or what the regs say. Much of this industry acts like only one person can read and everyone else just translates what that person told them after adding their own level of imprecision. How many logbook questions are based on "my first company or trainer said X, so X is the rule."
Anyone that doesn't have the FMCSR regulation page bookmarked doesn't really care about the compliance. -
Its always 11 hours drive time. If you always return to the base every night or at least the last 5 nights you can utilize the "short haul exception". If you are staying out overnight you cant use it.It isnt designed for OTR. Its designed to give local guys more unload time only.

If you stay within the radius, you can log driving under line 4 until your heart is contempt. As far as the FMCSA is concerned, you can drive locally 24/7/365. It's local laws you have to trifle with. Many local jurisdictions limit the day of a CMV operator to 14 hours. Hence why the FMCSA overrode that with this extension.

Also, it allows drivers operating under that rule to not have to do logs if they stay under 12 hours on duty in a day.
