I like how the media always usually uses gallons instead of barrels. I guess they like the bigger number? Nobody uses gallons in the oil business. Least I haven't ever used gallons in oil field trucking.
UKJ Thanks this. -
This one and the nasty spill they can't clean up in Montana, I'd say the oil industry is batting .1000
-
The average person doesn't have a clue what a barrel is.. Just be happy your not on metric system the amount would be 3.79 times greater if they used litres

i showered in glendive 3 times last week and havent noticed any strange odors or growths and not glowing in the dark either lol.

Three, six, nine. The goose drank wine. The monkey chewed tobacco on a street called Vine. The vine broke. The monkey got chocked. And we all went to heaven in a little row boat.
Taildragon and 77fib77 Thank this. -
Thats because barrels have a range of 32 gal to 45 up to 55.. not all barrels are created equal.

That spill was 12 MILLION QUARTS! They always use the most frightening numbers/names/statistics they can weasel their way into. On the other hand, outside of the oilfield absolutely not a soul on earth uses barrels as a unit of measurement for anything other than monkeys and laughs. As an aside the EPA is extremely anal about saltwater because it kills the soil, oil will go away but salt will spoil the ground long term. To all you water haulers and brine pipelines I humbly request that your next spill be on any of the major highways around Watford/Williston/Killdeer, the state of North Dakota is utterly incapable of keeping ice off the roadways and a little brine would go a long way.korky Thanks this.

In the early days of oil production whiskey and wine barrels were used to store and transport oil. At the time these were 40-gallon barrels. The Standard Oil Blue Barrel, or bbl, was 42-gallons to allow for 2 gallons of evaporation and leaks during shipment to a refinery.

Off subject....Mr. Gary Glitter.....as poor young men we would scour the junkyards for radio equipment, reverberators, amps and speakers for the hot rods. His music including this song was used to test the bass capabilities of our installs........
