I bought a 6 pin astatic mike from Effingham radio and repair thru their ebay store recently. Price was reasonable, quick shipping. Haven't bought any radios from them yet.

I have a Cobra 29 lx cb just out of the box with a k30 mag mount antenna. I had the swr on channel 1 at 1.2 19 at 1 40 at 1.3, Watched some vids on opening it up and adjusting VR4 for 100% modulation. So I did that and bought a tc300 linear which is suppose to do 150 watt max. Hooked it all up and dont seem to be getting further then 10 miles. Can anyone suggest what might be going on I know its all hooked up right. Sure hope I didnt get ripped on the linear either. Any advice is appreciated. Maybe I need a better antenna?

Your distance is also affected by propagation. You have line of sight which is affected by your antenna height, curvature of the earth and height of the receiving station antenna. then you have atmospheric propagation where you signal bounces off various layers of the atmosphere all play a role in how far you can be heard. You can run 50,000 watts and have areas where you wouldn't be heard because receiving station may be in the area not covered by line of sight or skip. there are operators who specialize in talking around the globe with under 5 watts. They take advantage of band openings such as the solar cycle we are currently experiencing. Listen to a station such as 700 am between midnight and 5 am you may be able to hear them in some areas 400 miles away and not be able to hear them 75 miles from their base.

10 miles with a 100w amp is not bad just for talking down the road...Conditions have allot to do with just how far you can talk also like Neverready was saying, plus your surrounding's has allot to do with it. If your around allot of mountains or tree's or buildings your range will be slightly reduced... Your antenna however has the most to do with your range than anything...When it comes to CB Antenna's, "Height is Might", and that K30 antenna you have at best would be considered a "Budget Antenna"...If you can get away with running a antenna that's at least 5' tall, I think you will find you will get a little better range...

If you haven't already done so, you may want to hook up a external watt meter and see just how many watts your putting out, just to make sure your amp is working right...If your not seeing over 100w's, then the amp may have a blown pill.

100 watt perfect for driving 600 and that will set you up for a Henry 2K. You will probably want to switch to heavy antenna line for the 2K. and maybe a steel whip.

Bad side there will still be times when you can not talk to who you want because even thou they now here you, the locals will block your ears. Big power cant fix that.
