Here's a few companies you probably won't hear about in CDL school. If you're not interested, maybe some of your classmates will be. These all hire new CDL grads.

    KKW Trucking
    Trimac Transportation
    Freymiller
    Schneider Bulk
    Superior Carriers
    National Carriers
    TWT Refrigerated Service
    Pride Transport
    Super Service
    System Transport
    Midwest-coast Transport
    JBS Carriers
    Gardner Trucking
    Northern Refrigerated Transportation
    Watkins-Shepard
    Decker Truck Line
    Navajo Express
    Southern Refrigerated Transport

    Western Express - hires felons
    Carolina Cargo - hires felons
Martin Enterprises of the Carolinas - hires felons

Lots of stuff out there for most everyone. Don't have to settle for just companies the school pushes.

Thanks. I'll definitely pass this on. Question for you. In your experience does having a TWIC make being hired easier? I printed the app and the San Diego office is just down the street from the school. Figured I'd apply subscribing to the theory the more quals, endorsements, the better.

Having TWIC doesn't necessarily make being hired easier, but some companies require it so it may delay being hired with a preferred company until you get it. Most hazmat/tanker companies require it. If you do have one already when applying, then it puts you ahead of applicants that don't.

Update: Quite the week!! Got my 2yr Med Cert on Monday and took the General Knowledge, Air Brake, Combo, Double/Triple, HazMat, Tanker, Passenger, Class C, and Motorcycle written tests today. Got lucky and passed them all. Scheduled my driving tests for 2/19 (CL-A) and 2/25 (Bus), respectively. Guess we'll spend the next week working mostly on the practical Pre-Trip and Air Brake tests then hit the yard. Going well so far and for added bonus was informed they upped the WIA limit so I'll get my out-of-pocket $ reimbursed. Now to start filling out on-line applications. We submitted paper apps to Swift and Werner through the school. In summary I'd say "So Far-So Good". Cheers.

The school is pushing Swift and Werner, but that's ok, it's part of their job. You can do better with the tankers; $$$$$ thousands a year better.

Passed my Pre-Trip and Air Brake practical tests today and Monday head for the yard. Looking forward to it. We've had recruiters in from Werner, Swift, & Schneider and if I were looking to pull vans would probably choose Werner. Still want tankers though so will keep looking. Talked with Coastal Transport who told me call when got my CDL. Exciting stuff!!
