Apparently the upper connector forward of the mechanical fuel pump on my ISX is not the cam position sensor. I pulled the valve cover off and that connector is the one that goes to the engine brake wiring harness inside the motor.
I pulled the connector off the sensor directly underneath and the engine dies and it looks like that one is the cam position sensor. When I pulled off the connector and cleaned it a little and squeezed the connections back a little tighter the tach came back to life and the buzzer and idiot lights stopped. Then about 30 miles later the buzzer came back on with the driver info display showing a "RPM?" indicator on the screen.
I looked at the codes in the diagnostic section and it shows mid128 pid131 fmi 4.

    Any ideas? :biggrin_25521:

Ok, that makes sense. I am getting a build up of oil inside that pass through connector to the engine brake. That's what I have been cleaning out from time to time.
    Thanks!:yes2557:

It turns out for those with similar troubles that it was actually the crankshaft position sensor that was bad. That sensor is on the drivers side of the engine near the front.
