You gotta do more than hand in the BOL, go back and sit in your truck, take nap until its loaded or unloaded. You get a little more money because you don't know how to fill out a Comcheck for a lumper....

    NO DOCKS! :)

I loved tanker yankin'...I only did hot asphalt where we could load and unload ourselves and run as many loads as we wanted to...I was also paid by the ton, so being able to load it right to 80K each time without having to deal with anyone was a plus, I loved it...I also managed to escape without any burns...

Many tanker trailers are a lot shorter than a 53' van.

Many times, I've been able to maneuver into the very last most difficult spot in the truck stop at 2-3 am.

Visibility, to the rear, you can "See" a lot more in your mirrors down both sides of your trailer.

When the Wind blows hard, you will not be terrified of getting blown-over.

    What part of NY ??

Are you upstate, the city, the island, or north country ?????

If you can get on in a hazmat tank go for it, foodgrade doesn't pay nearly as good in most cases......If there is a good foodgrade carrier upstate that pays well I'm listening (or reading)...

If you are in CNY maybe try Alnye out of Cortland/Moravia they do both petro and milk..

Tanker is better in many ways as already pointed out in the above posts....Tanks kinda reminded me of bull hauling in a way, your fellow driver is more than willing to help usually....Good luck finding that in a grocery warehouse or cold storage..

I am a little over an hour from nyc so just about any trucking job will have me go there expect the newburgh c&s its mostly long island. Not having to worry about low bridges is nice and trailers are usually shorter but i think the gas stations are tighter. The only company around here is arg i believe tarpening is upstate. Stewarts is upstate they pay good I want to move to syracuse though but i have to find a job before i can move there. Taxes are too high down here. 4-5 grand a year for a 60,000 house in the ghetto. syracuse i can get nicer house for 60,000 and pay only 1,000 a year in taxes.

Upstate isn't much of an improvement we are taxed pretty heavy up here also..

Terpening and ARG are pretty good upstate and usually have openings...Alnye needs milk haulers just about all the time and they do hire fuel drivers quite a bit..

Most of the openings I see for fuel are night jobs, to start anyway..

I live in Saratoga county. A lot depends on the town and school district also. I cant complain about my taxes as much as I hate the area I live in. Gotten far to busy for me but im only here until my kids are out of school. Stewarts is always looking for gas drivers. They have a 4 day work week but I don't think the money is that great. R Conley has been looking for a driver now for awhile also hauling molasses. Mirabito is another one looking for fuel haulers right now. There is pretty much always tanker companies hiring out of the Albany area.

Conley is always hiring down here, I forgot about them....Did read some not so favorable reveiws on them but you know how that goes..They do advertise home weekends though..

Mirabito is really big around here I see the trucks a lot..They don't advertise for drivers much, I'd take that as a good thing..
