Correct and join a firm that will help you establish a maintinance fund and loan you money when things take a bad turn. Then bust your rear paying it off, the next one will be easy. But the main thing is have money in the bank. Two months of living expense is a good start, and no that does not include your maintenance fund.

This guy is in the right. I can second most of it out of my own experience. Right about International, CAT engines, old school KW and Petes. Freightliner is cheaper and dealerships are everywhere. In my EVO with a DD15 I averaged 7.5 MPG in 120K miles last year and when doing the math by comparing it with a truck that only makes 6.5 MPGs I saved 9 840 dollars, that's 820 dollars a month. (Always running 62 MPH and searching for the best prices in route, probably more) To me the best looking truck out there is the w9 and I'm satisfied by seeing it only. Success in business is based on good decision making and minimizing risk.

Well, if you ever want to experience buyer's remorse, a Mack Titan with the MP10 engine is a good way to go for that experience.
Like what's already been said, need more details.. what MYs of truck(s) are you looking at? What purpose are they going to serve? What kind of work are you doing? If you like Freightliners with Cat engines, I'm guessing you've never had to deal with the SDP Cats. It's all relevant.

I, myself , would work towards a 2002 or older Mack. Prior to emissions, those E7 engines were pretty much bulletproof, and got great fuel economy. And they're usually priced cheaper than a comparable Freight liner. Yes, you DO give a few things up, (A Mack is generally not as fancy) but I'd take reliability over pretty any day.
