I wouldn't say, they should never work again after a DUI/DWI, but if a pattern is shown? Then maybe they shouldn't be allowed to drive a truck, JMPO

i got a dui in nebraska in 2001 and have since been licenced in mo ia and mt and it still shows up on my mvr but after it got over 5 yrs old companys quit looking at it for the most part although i was told years ago not to bother applying at crete because of theyre dui policy .
and shortly after i went back to work after getting my licence back i got a letter in mail from my carriers insurance co. telling me i was on probation and if i ever got another dui i would never be insurable in a commercial vehicle again .
i do my drinking at home these days . -
yep. i'm a drinker. always will be to the day i die. and i do it at home.
for all you no gooders. you can all kiss my rebel.

Understood....I know people change....but...just think of the folks that would be alive today , as we discuss this , if the penalty for the 1st DUI was a permanent revocation of the privilege to drive. Some folks learn that drinking and driving aren't a good match , and refrain from it , like snowy....by admission...he drinks , but he does it at home...classy guy. He admits it's a problem , much like you just did above. BUT...lots of folks don't. That's my point...Drinking and driving is a choice...made by the individual drinking , not a "mistake '' , a choice. A choice that puts them and others at risk.....I have zero tolerance for it...ZERO...but I'll say again that's my opinion....The OP asked for advice...I gave him what I thought was good advice...his choice to drink and drive and get busted shows he didn't learn from the 1st conviction.....that's not good , that's a really selfish attitude to me..But I don't make the rules....he'll more than likely find work , I wish him all of the luck I can in doing so....but I don't condone and never will condone his choices in the past....being young....really does only one thing , it gives the individual an excuse.....that's all.....old enough to buy the crap.....old enough to recognize you're breaking the law when you drive after you've been drinking....simple concept.

my dui was definatly an attn. getter for me and i learned from it but as far as permanent revocation goes that doesent work for some people either , i have friends and relation in mn ia and nebr whom have been told they will never have a dl again and the morons still drink and drive .

the problem, is, you people throw punishment for life, for those of us who did stupid things as a kid and more then likely no longer do it as an adult.
with age, comes wisdom and maturity. but some of you don't take that into consideration.
if i were to get a dui, to which i did. i'd rather do it while i'm young. and have nothing to lose. not now, where i have everything to lose.
and we're not talking automible homicide either. just flat out being young, dumb, and having fun.Claymoresauce and Cranky Yankee Thank this. -

You not count your life as something possibly to lose as the result of DUI / CRASH ?
G.Anthony Thanks this. -
I would think if no one was able to work with a dui and if everyone got caught every time they drove drunk there would be very few drivers on the road and very few cops writing tickets. I would think if the ones that do have dui's weren't allowed back in a commercial vehicle there would be a huge demand for drivers right now.

Pretty selfish way to look at this snowy......in 1 sentence , 1 mind you , you made my point for me....5 times you used I to describe the decision made to drive while drinking...5 times. Not once did you even mention the fact that you'll be putting into harms way a lot of folks...not just you. this is where it gets me.....I isn't the only thing you consider here...it's the we , the we who are in terrible danger when the I decides , to drink and drive. Age doesn't enter into the equation here , bad decisions aren't age specific.....they're just bad. I was a young man at one time in my life , was a teen in the mid 60's , the best time to be young and driving around , going cruising , trying to pick-up girls , or just going to hang-out with my pal's on Main st , not once did getting under the wheel after drinking , or drinking period ever enter my mind..that excuse has been used to death , young , dumb and full of you know what....I get it , but loosing control of your ability to reason isn't having fun.....it's really ignorant. No excuses for it too , since we're all taught way before we start driving that drinking and driving is immigrant , no mis-information here , just the selfish " I'm gonna drink and have a good time , no matter who it hurts"...like I said really selfish and in considerate.....Not you personally ...please understand....just attempting to make a point.G.Anthony Thanks this.
