just some labor stats for trucking, current empty jobs in all of transportation, 3.2% of all transportation jobs for Nov 2014.
for comparison,
construction, 2.3%
hospitality, 5.2% (food service jobs, hotels, service plazas)
total empty jobs in all sectors, 3.4%
now put some numbers to that percent.
transportation, openings for november, 876,000 jobs
total hires for november, 1,119,000
total terminations, 1,046,000

There is NO driver shortage, just a churning of the wannabes, and new hires.
current unemployment is 5.6% with a participation rate of 62.7 people able to work seeking employment. -

total hires for november, 1,119,000, this is the total amount of newbies hired on at Swift starting Dec, 1st, 2014
total terminations, 1,046,000, this is the total amount of drivers fired from Swift as of Dec 31st, 2014 -
um, Unemployment is actually 12%, which is still much lower than I thought (I thought it was closer to 30%

if trucking really has that bad of turnover then thats why we're (allegedly) paid so poorly
these higher-ups read about how bad turnover is , why would they pay us alot if stattisically we won't be there long. its a waste of their time and money. if we'd stop turnover pay may go up. but rates would have to go up first. -
"We will not stop turnover", if you are asking us drivers to stop it on our own. WE cannot agree on anything, we cannot band together, we are independents, we are not sheeple that adhere to the rules.
So as a result, many of us "do our time" and move on when something better comes along, and usually it does, then we stay put. Until then, all others are "way-stations" we pass by, pass through, pass judgement on to others. -
