The VA did say yesterday that they have finally mailed his cert. So he can go to school anywhere really and cost doesnt matter. Location does since he will have to work still while in school! He will have to be able to make it from a 3rd shift job to school in the morning.

Call those tanker companies I listed for you and ask if they hire from that school. Some of them will reimburse the tuition.
Those new drivers you read about bringing home $300 a week aren't driving tankers.jharrah01 Thanks this. -
Tell him welcome to the industry, and thank him for his service and thank you for supporting him, I know I could not have lasted 30 years in the Military Active and Guard, without the support of family, So thank YOU. I left the industry when I was called back to active duty, but ready to retire and get back on the road driving dedicated out of Salt Lake City.

A few days before school starts, he can submit job applications; doesn't have to wait until graduation. This way he will have a job the day he graduates. Submit as many job applications as he wants to, then pick one from the job offers. I know your situation; when I started driving had wife and 4 children at home. Best wishes.
Oh, and another thing, he can make good money with Maverick flatbed or TMC flatbed, but won't ever reach the big money tankers has to offer in the long run. -
Thank you so much for all your advice! It helps alot and gives us a better idea of what we are getting into!

Just finished CDL school myself using the GiBill. All you will need to do to get things started is apply on the Vonapp website for educational benefits or ask the school for the form and fax it in. This took me all of 10min to get it taken care of. While he is in school he will get paid per what his % of eligibility is. Even if the school is only 160hrs it will use up 3-4 months of his GiBill due to the cost of the school. From there some major carriers have a Veteran Apprenticeship program that while he is in training and for the first year he can use his GiBill and it will pay just like it did when he was in school, on top of his pay from the company. Plus some companies will pay back $100 each month after 30days directly to him to pay back his cost of tuition for the CDL School. So $1400+/- for the gibill each month, $300 (or whatever the pay is) each week for training... Hope this helped but i'm just a noob.
