    DOT simply states the vehicle must be in a safe operating condition. There is no minimum or maximum time involved.

    There is no regulation stating how long you have to log time wise, Pre & post trip I just flag. But I combine VI with loading, unloading, fuel. So I accumulate plenty of time toward inspection time.

    Where did you get that quote from? There is no violations in the CSMS for post-trip inspections, only pre-trip.

    When I went to school several years ago, we were taught that a documented post-trip DVIR was required when another driver will be operating the CMV after you. And visa versa. If some operated the CMV before you, as part of your pre-trip inspection, you must review the post-trip DVIR from the previous operator.

    Until last December, A DVIR was required from every driver, every day. Unless I'm mistaken here the FMCSA changed it so you only fill one out if some defect is found when you do your post trip
