Is there a difference between these two acronyms (which are highway use taxes)? I was in the process of completing my 2290 using greentax2290 and was going to pay with EFTPS and the description says
FHUT is taken out of my settlement each week so I don't want to pay the 2290 twice if this is the case?

The 2290 Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax is payable once per year by the vehicle owner. If your company is taking out the tax from your settlements you don't need to pay it again. The tax is $550/year and may be prorated from August. There is no need to pay someone or a service to pay the tax for you, either. You can go by any IRS office and pay the tax in person and get a stamped receipt while once you pay.

If your carrier is deducting the Heavy Highway Use Tax 2290 from your settlements then they also will have the paid copy you need to license the truck. Needed to license over 55,000 lbs. Also, whose name is on the title of the vehicle? Is it a lease purchase? There is a provision if the previous owner paid it as needed, the previous owner could actually transfer the paid tax to his new truck, thus making you pay it. If the previous owner has no other trucks, it should follow the vehicle, BUT you need the paid copy and some more Info to do that.

It would cost just as much money in gas to go to the nearest IRS (an hour away) as it does to pay the online service to efile it for me...so I'll just stick to the more convenient route lol.

I am a lease op and it looks as if they take care of it for me (and charge me off my settlement, so I think im just askibg to pay unnecessary money lol

If you as the individual wants to pay it you have to have FEIN # that is because its considered a excise tax.
