Jones Bros. Trucking - Missoula, MT pays $50.00 tarp pay & pays practical miles.

 

If those are your two options I'd go with the smaller outfit... From what I hear PTL is AWFUL. That being said there are other companies out there... Look into Crete/Shaffer if you want to run dry van or reefer. Hunt Transportation is their flatbed division and they train as well. Starting pay is much better. Just do your research before committing to ANY company.

 

Hi-Liter7 check out some of the LTL's. Not sure your location but some darn good LTL's are hiring right out of school. If you have your HAZMAT, Doubles/Triples you might be able to walk into a real good situation. I did flatbed when I first graduated because at that time none of the LTL's would hire someone straight out of school. What a difference 3 years makes in a labor market. There is no reason to work for bottom feeders when LTL offers so much more. Do yourself a favor and check out these companies below

Conway
ABF
Fedex Freight

These places all have finishing schools and pay very well. No dealing with percentage of load or .33 CPM and 40,000 miles with a trainer to be used as a second log book drivel. Thats a crappy deal. Make time to apply at the places I mentioned. Yes you may have to work the dock. No big deal you should learn know how to properly load, block, and airbag anyway. You may then get time in the yard backing trailers and building doubles/triples. Great skills to learn that pay nice dividends down the road. Just don't sell yourself short; you worked hard enough passing the CDL-A and going to school.

 

Look its really not a choice of percentage, hourly or mileage.

Companies budget 33% of there gross for payroll and payroll cost. If they are a bottom dweller, then they pay less, it is easier to see the mileage rate being low, but where they hide it is parking you in Ohmygosh WI or someplace similar. They run you 1500 or 1800 miles per week, if its percentage does not matter 90% of parked is zip.

When China suggest a company with a good track record they are gpoing to run hard enough to make a living.

Moral is when chasing rainbow becareful what the light source is.

Read inot tag lines. like the one I like "Biggest Pay Raise in Companies History" think they have been giving drivers wedgies at payday for along time if this is a true statement.

Or 55 cent per mile, then ** onloads 1 to 40 miles or some other such nonsense.

Schnieder stating 75000 per year delivering Dollar General, that the driver unloads every box and dollies into the store. Possible, I doubt it.

Just look real careful before you leap.

 

I work for werner walmart dedicated. If you can get dedicated account in werner, youd be set. Ive been doing solo for couple weeks now. They always keep me moving, and i barely wait. For a rookie like myself i had pretty decent income.
