you mistook me for being uptight, im just stating facts. I see you have been driving a year, you already have one of the best jobs out there for truckers, its cool, you like your job. OD doesn't pay OT, its not a big deal, it just makes ABF look better when you factor in some other things.

this is where ot after 40 sucks too, in the winter you end up eating it, because you don't get daily ot at a lot of places. ot after 8 is a great benefit, so you don't get penalized if you take a Friday or Monday off. if a place is slow in the winter, they will send you home, and those other 4 long days aint getting you much ot if it happens.....

I don't go on the clock, save for a training meeting, being on paid vacation / personal day, or if I wanted to pick up some random P&D work with any left over time on my clock after my run is over.

I'm not sure. We'd have to reach a certain threshold of waiting before getting paid hourly, same as break down pay. I don't recall what that threshold is. That's something that would only happen to wild bag drivers, and something that would not happen very frequently. I got some friends, husband and wife that team out on the west coast, I know they've sat a few times recently in a hotel, just because they were waiting on freight. I've never had to sit, don't know anybody out of my terminal that has sat either. We're pretty busy.

I work for UPS Freight. It sucks being on the bottom. Its great when you're on top. Start pay is 17.70 hr and top right now 27.15. Low guys get offered dock work when it is slow. When you drive it's gonna be a long day. As for the benefits there are two options..free and a premium $30 week for family. Btw you're not obligated to join the union at freight. There are several full timers that haven't. I spoke to an ABF driver last week that didn't like the fact that ups freight makes you wear a uniform and shave. Or that it takes 4 years to hit top pay. He said over there at abf they start out around 20 and top out at almost 25 in a year. No mandatory uniforms for drivers. Free medical. In case anyone is wondering about pay scale at UPS Freight. Here's a breakdown for drivers. P/D.. 17.70 , 18.70 ,20.00, 24.00 then top pay 29.15 and then a .50 raise every January. Sucks it takes so long but even on the bottom the average week is about $1200. Road drivers will top out at $.72 per mile.
