Yes locking caps may deter, but will not stop.

Great Idea maybe on the spot lights....Hopefully birds and dogs, and other critters dont set them off.

A quick observation also, they tend to steel while the driver is inside the building... they observe you walking to the building with a shower bag, they know they have more than enough time to get your fuel... and nobody around is really going to stop them, as they don't know who the owner of the truck is, and that person standing between the cat walk may just be pissing or crapping.

All depends on how determined the thief is, and is he just after fuel, or trying to get back at a specific company, or person.

Uh, no. Ours have some sort of locking feature that once installed, cannot be driven down into the tank, nor pried up. It would have to be drilled out. If I can get a website of the company product, I will post it here. But right now, I am home, not at work.

I spent Saturday night there, I guess it was a good thing I parked beside the plastic bag of pooh, and an earlier driver ran over the other bag leaving a trail of tread shape pooh every 5 feet or so. Must have been a team to leave 2 bags.
OH, OH, that was your truck?:biggrin_25518: You know, in this day, and the price of fuel, you'd think all trucks would have locking fuel caps.
The guys who tried getting my fuel 7 years ago had all the tools necessary to drain the tanks by other means...whether disconnecting the crossover line, removing the plug, or if they're really mad at you for trying to make your fuel harder for them to get, they'll just make a new hole. Thieves don't care what they damage. Heck, they are helping themselves to what at the time was several hundred dollars worth of fuel. You think they care if it costs you a few hundred extra to have your tank repaired, the tow to the repair shop, and down time waiting for the repairs to be made?

Anywhere but the house, and my tanks are pretty low by the time I park for the night. Pop the cap, see it ain't worth your time, and move on to a more lucrative target. Here at home? 3 dogs and a 12 gauge make for a pretty good deterrent.

I tell ya', the real crooks are the ones selling those locking fuel caps. Cheapest I found was $59.95 each up to $106 each.( $140 for the fancy "skull" locking cap) I suppose if it saves $800 dollars in fuel, it's worth it. I wonder if there's any way to electrify the tanks somehow.:biggrin_2551:
