A 51-year-old man was killed and a 32-year-old North York man is facing a charge of impaired driving causing death after a tractor-trailer and Jeep collided around 10 p.m.
Trucks need to be designed to protect drivers in a crash.

If I hadn't decided to make an unplanned stop a little earlier I would have been very close to there when the crash happened. Pretty sure that truck passed me earlier in the evening. http://www.citynews.ca/2015/02/04/hwy-401-closed-in-whitby-after-deadly-tractor-trailer-crash/

No words will do justice to the disgust I have for the drunk. Such a senseless end to a mans life.

On a side note, I saw three electronic signs letting me know all lanes of the eastbound 401 were blocked at that location and was warned about it on the CB. Getting off 1 exit earlier to bypass it I was amazed to watch every single other truck around me head right in to the back up. I didn't see another truck westbound until I got to the 404. I guess parking on the 401 for hours beats reading signs.

I guess parking on the 401 for hours beats reading signs. See that a lot even when warned well in advance of slowdowns , tye ups ahead when running in that area.

Flatbed - That truck is white ;)

I drove past this on my way home and man did it look bad... But not as bad as these pictures show.. When I drove past it I knew it was another fellow waste hauling driver must have been loaded with a lot of weight (probably close to 60-63 ton).... There is nothing left of the cab and that is a very very scary thought... I am in a day cab and I can only imagine what my truck would look like in a crash like that...

I agree with Limes they need to build trucks so they are safer in accidents.... I mean everything thinks a truck is a safer place to be in an accident but really when you think about it they are mostly fiberglass or thin metal for weight savings.. Forget the weight build a type of roll cage around the cab so that in an accident the truck doesn't look like the one in the pictures.... All states and provinces so allow for extra weight for the protection of the driver and allow that weight to be added in as extra on top of gvw... Worry less axle weight to the road and worry more about the drivers in accidents...

looked greenish in the 1 pic on 2nd viewing it is white was something beside the hood that was greenish took the white as being snow on it , they have a few trucks all various colors Green , blue , white so I have likely seen it whatever color it is on HWY 417 / 17 they haul bottom dump grain trailers a lot as well up and down HWY 416 to the Grain silos at Johnston and BIO FUEL PLANT
