I drove for a company back in the 60's & 70's that had several conventional KW's with over one million miles. They were making West and East Coast turn arounds about every 6 to 12 days, without hardly any trouble. Yes, ever now and again they would have a minor breakdown, yet never major troubles between the West and East Coast.
I suppose that might be impossible for many of the modern day trucks with all the emission and electronic stuff along with all the extra wiring and electrical connections scattered all over the trucks. They just have many more things that can god wrong with them.
I feel sure though that some of the modern day trucks that are taken good care of and driven by a good owner operator truck driver might still be OK even after a million miles. That is if you drive in properly and take proper care of that truck.
Had a friend that bought a new early 80's conventional KW that had more than a million miles and was still going strong with very little troubles. He though about trading for a new one but back out and did an inframe and kept on going till his age and health took him out of trucking.
Inframe good or not??
