OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's what the high side is for.No matter how long it takes you crank it till the pads of the landing gear come loose then take it to the low side.Hope she learned from this exp.Never wanna force it.OK I think I mussunderstood your post. When the handle will not move because some heman of a driver kept lowering and lowering the trailer she needs to get help.Sometimes guys forget women do work in this field and we're not as strong as you guys are.

Play around with it, just remember the low gear is for situations like when the switcher drops the trailer with tension on the legs or for when you are dropping a heavy load you want to use the low gear for securing the load a little (a couple extra cranks)
.... Sometimes you are stuck using the low gear & this takes alot of cranking, I use the low gear first then jump into high gear to finish it quicker, when you have a good trailer, you can use two fingers to spin the legs up, most trailer dolleys spin forward to the nose to lift & toward the back to drop but sometimes it's the reverse of this 😎👍

Good post but how would the high side make it quicker when finishing it?

For me, I like letting the truck do most of the work, so? When lowering the landing gear, I'll leave it just off the ground, and after I release the 5th wheel and the air and electrical lines, I'll drop the air bag and pull out, so when re-hooking to the trailer, the truck lifts the trailer landing gear just off the ground, making it very easy to raise up

Don't crank the trailer all the way up when dropping it either. Do what crzyiarmans said. It is a pain in the ##### when you back under a trailer and your king pin ends up in front of the 5th wheel.

I'm learning to...been with trainers 3 weeks now doing city driving hauling intermodal. The best I can explain it is *in most cases* the low gear is going to be for torque strength. Sometimes the guy that dropped the trailer may have left the landing gear too high or low. The low gear will give you the torque strength to raise or lower as needed.

The high gear is once that weight is lifted by the tractor and fifth wheel...for speed.

Then you simply have pieces of garbage out there, where even with the weight off, they get *tight* or "rough spots" regardless the situation. It can definitely wear you out and down...OR be great exercise too...:biggrin_2559:

That is making it too simple! We ain't CAVEMEN you know...:biggrin_2552:
Which is great, if you are coming back for the same trailer. My last gig, LTL, we had one tractor that the 5th wheel was higher than all the others. If whoever was driving that tractor forgot that little fact, the next tractor under the trailer that he dropped, was very likely to jump the fifth wheel. What a PITA

When I left the powder companies I had to relearn this, the legs over there all sldie with pins no cranks, and of course the first trailer I come up against at Swift in Marshalltown wont crank up, -20 degrees and this thing did not want to move, Made me really question leaving my desert for this.....

I took a 4" extension and welded a piece of 1.25 diameter pipe to it drilled a hole thru it so I can pin it to the shaft going out of the jack transmission. But of course they all work fine now that I have the answer, Air tools work well, they should all be air drive legs
