Greetings Drivers! Been lurking long enough, I figured I might as well say hey.
New CDL A graduate in Oregon here, graduated in September and haven't started working yet due to some personal projects that are almost wrapped up. Hoping to hire on between Mid March and Early April.
I'm interested in going OTR (at least for my 6 months - a year) because I am young, no family of my own, and friends and extended family scattered all over the lower 48! I have Doubles, Triples, and Tanker endorsements on my license. Definitely welcome company recommendations, especially ones with OCs or yards in Pennsylvania.
My last long term job was in mobile food vending at huge summer music festivals -- a pretty good gig considering all the free music and food (Paul McCartney and Pizza? alright!! followed by hot wings, and Tom Petty and the Heartburners...) but since I didn't run my own stand the money wasn't very good. But the environment (and my spotless driving record) was what got me thinking I could handle trucking just fine -- sleeping in tents, waiting in line for showers, working 15+ hour shifts, taking guff from event security, and packing up at the end and heading three states away to get to the next festival. Eventually I wanna tie it together and get on as a driver with a Food Service or even better Music Production company.
I am unconventional in that I'm flexible and interested in all sorts of CDL work: drive-away, Class B delivery/courier, and even passenger all intrigue me. I'm interested in finishing my Bachelors in the next couple years (Yes I am AM one of those College Boys... :smt002) and also am interested in seasonal work. Honestly even at a low paying company, trucking will give me a better income than I've ever had, and I want to enjoy my flexibility and not get too greedy right off the bat.
Grateful for all the shared knowledege on here as always.
Cheers,
B

Ignore any "experience required" and apply anyway; some drivers land a great job that way. -
Thanks Chinatown - appreciate your wide knowledge of company reputations I see you sharing with many drivers. Many on that list I haven't heard of yet so I'll be sure to investigate.
