the clutch brake can rattle a little bit when the clutch pedal is up. If it is a on piece design from Eaton and it is rattling you might have ripped the center out of the clutch brake. I would give the throw out bearing some grease like BoxCarKidd said. I only use two piece designs so they are easier to replace. you might have another issue with the transmission itself if you get a vibration in those gears specifically and if the main shaft of the trans. is moving it means your input shaft is has more wiggle than it should and could be tearing the center of the clutch discs up.

If its slipping, there's a problem and it will not last very long.
I recall one night crossing Texas my clutch was slipping just a tiny bit, i stopped on I-20 up the hill from Toyah, TX on the shoulder, did a bit of adjusting on my clutch, pulled out and it slipped no more.Last edited: Feb 6, 2015

Well I haven't had much problems with the clutch the last couple days of running. Nothing noticeable other than I can still feel a chatter or vibration like I mentioned before. But I don't know why I didnt think of it sooner but could this vibration whike I'm going down the road be U-joints? I do think the clutch could use some adjusting yet and for a few days there what I could feel was definitely some clutch slipping, but now that I think about it what I'm feeling now seems to most likely be U-joints. As far as greasing the throw out bearing, I think I'll leave it alone. The mechanic said he made sure it was properly greased when he put everything back together. And I don't have that many miles on since.

vibration could always come from U-joints but would feel it in all of the high range, not just a few gears

If there is no freeplay and clutch doesn't grab till almost completely off the floor, am I correct in assuming there is no room for adjustment? 2007 freightliner, merceds engine
