What did YOU do before driving a land barge?

    I have sold real estate - residential and commercial. Then worked for 20 years in commercial interior design. Owned a small design studio. Worked in facilities management for a hospital - that was a horrible job.

    Then got my CDL and drove OTR for 2 years. Now I work as a transport driver taking new trucks to their buyers. Everyone loves to see you coming with a new truck! We stay in hotels, company pays for all our expenses and we get paid by the mile. We take a plane home - getting airline miles and, eventually, free tickets. Work M-F only. I love it.

    Went to broadcasting trade school in Southfield, MI.

    Worked for a FOX affiliate TV station for almost years doing Master Control. Just running a video switchboard that puts the shows on the air and school closings and weather warnings. It was dull but often easy.

    Wound up being let go by new management. I was getting sick of the job and thinking of leaving anyway so I didn't feel bad. So later I went through Driver Solutions/C1 and have begun solo driving for PAM.

    I went to Brown Institute (now Brown College) and got a degree myself in Radio and TV broadcasting. Had worked at a radio station for about sevenish years on a volunteer basis. Loved it. Trying now to think of how to get back into the field...would like to do some voice acting work.

    I worked as a Regional Sales Manager for a major window company and before that I was involved in residential real estate for many years. Six months ago the ax of downsizing swung once again and I was caught on the down swing!:biggrin_2552:

    Sheesh! You folks make me feel positively dull as dish water. Before trucking I was a high school kid with odd jobs. Spent a short time after graduation cooking days and DJ'ing at night at local radio station. Started driving at 19. I gotta say, brushing rat teeth isn't one of the things covered at career day but there have been those days when rodent dentition would have sounded a fine field to get into.

    I worked for Caterpillar for 16 years as a Master Cat mechanic while simultaneously working as a reserve police officer for the local sheriffs dept. I met a wonderful lady who drove trucks AFTER I got divorced and decided it would be something new and different to try so now I'm jammin gears for a livin, or something like that.
    No, I was not a sargeant but all my friends called me that and still do when they see me.

    At the ripe old age of 7 I got a job, well it was two jobs mowing. :biggrin_25523: I mowed the local American Legions yard and the post office yard. Then I took a break for 9 years. I got my license and started working at a grocery store after school. That lasted 11 months. I then work as matianence for a local subdivision. That was seasonal so it only lasted four month. Then I work for my high school helping the janitor mow the grass. I graduated. Then I went to a factory and worked in assembly for three months. Then college. Then back to the factory in shipping. Then back to college. Then back to shipping at the same factory. Then back to college. Then I went to work for my friends dad. I did it all. Auto repair, auto body repair, trailer reapair and fabrication, vehicle lock out runs, tow runs (this is where I got to drive a roll back, I loved it). :biggrin_2554: Then back to school. The second to last year I helped a teacher teach the lab to a hydraulics pneumatics. The last year in college I taught the lab (by myself) in the hydraulics pneumatics class and the power systems (gear, belts, pulleys, power transmission) and I also helped out in the lab of another class (woodworking business course). So the last semester that I was suppose to take it easy I ended up taking around 27 credit hours. I was always at school from 8 am to 9 pm everday. That wore me out fast. After graduation from a state school with a BS in Industrial Automotive Technology with a minor in Manufacturing Technology I took a month off. Well not really, I hadn't found a job yet. Then a friend calls me up to tell me to put my application in at Cummins. I did then I got a email 7 hours later telling me that they would like me to submit my resume. So I did, again. Two weeks later I was told that I had a job. I would be at that job 1 year in 15 days. So as part of the job I had to get my Class A cdl and Bus endorsement. Now I work on and drive test vehilces for Cummins INC. Been driving around in circles for the last four weeks. Never know where I am going or what I am doing in two weeks. Keeps the job interesting.
