I am always wearing blaze orange or safety yellow. I pull a flatbed and previously worked in construction, so to me HI-VIZ is part of my attire any time I am out of the truck. That means I also wear it in the truck cuz I am not changing clothes every time I get in or out of my truck.
My seat belt is not hi-viz, but I am.
Make sure they see you

They should teach this in truck driving school.
Happens all the time. And not just at the fuel island. Stay away from the front of the truck you don't have a chance to move out of the way when you're so close like that.

Beware when in Florida we have a yield to pedestrian law down here that permits any idiot to dash out in front of you without warning where a marked pedestrian crossing is ,even if it is night and the crossing is unlit.
Than we have all the idiots on vacation that just walk out in front of a car going 50 mph thinking hell I have right away they have to stop.
That doesn't work out well very often.
i had to Cross 2 very busy streets by myself to go to school as a kid of 5 and never had a problem because we e were taught to look both ways. These days these idiots can get ran over coming out of a Bestbuy because they refuse to look up and take responsibility for their actions. -
Hell we have a local train that runs down the middle of a 4 lane surface raod, no more than 2 weeks between either car vs train or ped vs train. Umm they cant swerve very well with those tracks holding them in place....
