I promise that I'm not a complete idiot and actually do know, most of the time, how to fill out a job application. But I seem to be stuck in this one area. OK, so the story goes that I've had 2 minor accidents while with my last employer. The first one was catching the door track with an open trailer door and tearing the door off the hinges. No damage to the door track or dock door. The second accident was I scratched a tractor next to me with my trailer while trying to align my truck with the dock door. In both cases, there was no police report, no injuries, no towing and no DOT report. My company called both preventable accidents, which they were, and the Safety Review Committee insisted I be terminated, which I was. Now my question is, do I put these two incidents under the accident portion of the application? Or do I put them in the space that pops up when I say I was fired from last employer?

Also, having never been in this predicament before, I'm a little concerned if I'm even hireable. I've gotten no moving violations, no DOT reportable accidents, no bad inspections and 3 overweight tickets. I'm still waiting to receive my copy of my DAC report so I have no idea what that says but as far as I know, my PSP score is great. So is there a way I can present these two accidents where they do not look so bad? Please, any advice that you can give would be more than appreciated as would any suggestions for companies who will hire me.

I guess they're accidents cause they were done accidentally, but honestly they were minor incients. IMO, ya shouldn't have even been terminated for them, that bein said, I'd mention MINOR EQUIPMENT DAMAGE when it asks why ya were terminated.

I wouldn't hold the info back, because if the employer has put ether one or both on your DAC, perspective employers will find out anyways, best be honest, you'll find work sooner or later, best of luck

Not really important but I assume you were pulling out of an inside dock when you tore the trailer door off. Correct?
First,, I wouldn't list them as accidents, nor say "I was fired because I had 2 preventable accidents".
Realistically, they were minor property damage INCIDENTS, not accidents. In any driver's first year things like this (careless mistakes) will happen, within reason. They were unusually strict to fire you, unless the "scratch" on the parked tractor looked actually more like a team of lumberjacks wailed on the cab with axes for 30 minutes.

If possible, I'd wait to see if they reported it on your DAC. In any case, I'd simply tell (or note on application) any prospective employer "I was released from (insert name) Trucking Co due to having 2 minor property damage incidents, and very briefly describe each, so they don't "assume" the incidents/damage to be worse than it actually was.

But I also wonder how you received THREE overweight tickets, when you apparently haven't even had 1 year driving? Even when your company intentionally or unintentionally overloads you, or it's due to overaxle but not gross overweight, that fault lies solely with you and you need to learn how to correct that issue/problem.

I must be a slacker! I haven't got three overweight tickets in 30 years, and it surely isn't because I never ran overweight!:biggrin_25519:

    I do the short version,
Pull your MVR,PSP and HireRite report..

Whatever is on mine is all I tell them.
Make employment dates match and so on.

That way anything they find you knew they would in advance...
Anything negative,be upfront with them before they hire you.
9 times out of 10 you get the job....just by being straight up about anything.

It will sometimes get them to overlook a few blemishes on your record.

Those were incidents in my book....Can't see it was a reportable accident except to DAC...

Stuff like that happens ALWAYS take pictures. It could save your arse one day!

Yes, it was an inside dock with the sun shining right in my eyes. I couldn't see a thing while I was backing and was constantly getting out to look at where I was. As for the other, I have pictures on my phone and the scratches were just that. About 18 inches long right above the driver side steer tire (quarter panel?) Happened in Maryland where the docking area was too short for 53 foot trailers and all the tractors were a little ####ed to the left because there was no room to straighten completely out.
I've been driving for 17 months now and the overweight tickets are ridiculous. One was a 2 stop for Walmart where the first Walmart DC totally unloaded the trailer to get their stuff and then put the rest back all up front. The company paid for that one. The other was the tandem pin release wouldn't work and I couldn't move the tandems to correct the weight, which the company knew. The other one was a load that went from Virginia to Utah and I got the ticket in Nebraska even though my CAT scale ticket showed legal! CAT wouldn't pay for that because when they checked their scale in Virginia, it showed correct readings.
Anyway, back to this problem. I'm waiting for my DAC report from HireRight to see what it says. The company that fired me (Total) didn't want to but their parent company (USExpress) insisted. My terminal manager said to use his phone number for the reference but that it would show up as termination per Safety Review Committee. And I know that that sounds bad no matter how minor the incidents, accidents, whatever. So I'm really not sure how to spin this since one major company has already shot me down.

Do not "Hold Back" any information. They will find out anyway when they contact your past employers to verify your work history. Better to list the accidents, but explain the minor damage, than to have an old employer surprise your prospective employer with the information. If you lie on your application, it will disqualify you from working for that company in the future. If you have accidents on your history, that same employer might hire you later on, when those accidents are over a year old

Better to be honest, than make yourself seem like you are "holding back" anything. While contacting the employer, maybe ask them how you should list minor equipment damage, that was "Not D.O.T. reportable". Let them know up front, and it will only help you, as opposed to hurting you later.

Considering that you are coming on here trying to find a way to "spin" things in your favor, it really makes me wonder about you. Instead of trying to put a spin on things, which is just another way of saying lie about things, how about growing up a bit and owning your mistakes. I flatly do not believe they fired you over nothing more than these two extremely minor incidents.
