O, we have warehouse guys that take care of all that.
-
It's the internet, Going to not try take this out of context. Get with the warehouse guys and learn a bit. Could help you out in the future and a few minutes of your time learning. Have a great opportunity to expand experience and not play stupid wheel holder. Fondling( finger printing ) freight is the name of the game in LTL. Yup, I used the word fondling
bubbagumpshrimp and pittsm Thank this. -
Hey that is great. However, this is the trucking industry. Things vary from company to company, and often from dock to dock within the same company. You are not going to spend a career in trucking, without doing some work other than driving. Learning loading/unloading, operation of freight handling tools and as many other areas of the industry as you can, is essential to continuing on in this business.
Few drivers go through their career with one employer, or with one type of job. If you want to build your value as an employee get as much varied experience as you can.Gearjammin' Penguin, Shaggy, bubbagumpshrimp and 1 other person Thank this. -
That's what I said old man! Quite stealing my thunder dang it....
Joking aside, Old man don. You still said it better...
-
Yeah, but I never admitted to fondling the freight!
Shaggy Thanks this. -
Those Japanese dolls are so life like. Guilty.
Chinatown is switching over to japanese quality. Proof is in the pudding....Big Don Thanks this. -
Yup. I spent my first month and a half working the dock on the graveyard shift. It's something that I'm glad I got a chance to do. People talk. Coming from the white collar world (people knew about my background when I started)...it was a great way of proving to co-workers and leadership that I wasn't afraid of a little hard work.
My $.02...I wouldn't let having to start out doing some dock work deter you from going with a particular LTL company. -
Never said I had anything against dock work or wouldn't do it. Just that my company doesn't work like that, so I was curious about it.
Shaggy, bubbagumpshrimp and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Never hurts to speak with the warehouse guys, Worst thing they can do is tell you go pound sand. If they don't, pick their brains a few minutes a day and be genuine about it. Most folks love spilling information/knowledge "while on the same team". Blanket statement, same employer and different areas folks like to talk. go do it and report back ASAP

ETA: Infact, it might make everyones job a little less confusing. Communication between departments is always huge bonus....
Heck, Might even find a bowling buddy or pool shark lol
