One time in Harrisburg,PA on I-81 when I was bobtailing for doing 62 in a 55, cop just did a quick log check and gave me a verbal warning. One time in Carthage, TX. I was EB on US79, just made the left onto the loop north when he lit me up. Just wanted to do an inspection. At 0230. On a Saturday morning. And he reminded to be careful because of the number of drunks out at that time. On the side of the road.... lolwut. Last time was about 3 years ago for doing 54 in a 45 construction zone on I-95 in CT. Total speed trap. There were 0 speed signs before the construction zone. Cop told me it was the electric sign 3 miles back that was right before the previous construction zone. Then told me that the speed limit was 45 the whole way. I asked him if that included the part after that previous construction zone where it said "End Construction" right by the 65 mph sign. That was the point he started getting mad and cursing at me so I decided to play it cool after that. Ah well, was only like $150 I think? Funny thing is I am usually the one shaking my head at how fast others go through construction zones and make it a point to be careful in them.

Once on a Friday afternoon I was headed to Salinas to load a load of lettuce. I had ben running about 65 MPH and when I came into Santa Maria I slowed down to the 55 MPH. Once past there I sped up some. About 8 miles north of Santa Maria a Trooper pulled me over and asked me how fast I was driving. I said about 95 MPH.

He told me, “I’ve been following you ever since Santa Maria, when I first saw you, you were running 55 MPH, them you kept on speeding up about ever mile or two, and when you hit 95 MPH I thought it was time to pull you over.” Them he asked me where I was going. I told him I was headed to Salinas, hoping to get loaded this evening.

He wrote me a ticket for going 65 MPH telling me it would cost me $25.00, them told me, “Go on up to Salinas you will not see another trooper between here and there and I hope you will get loaded today, but if you come back this way I will still be around and you better slow down within 8 miles of Santa Maria.”

I made it up there and thankfully saw no troopers and was the last truck loaded that Friday night. But coming back down 101 I cut across 46 to 99 them down to Bakersfield.

I wasn't pulled over by a cop, but I was already on the shoulder. The first time, I am on the shoulder of an off ramp cleaning my mirrors. A trooper rolls past me, stops and backs up. He leans across the passenger side and gives me a thumbs up and takes off.

Second time, I was loading hay on the shoulder on Hwy 9, south of Crookston, MN. I had my four-ways on, I have my HI-Vis on and 3 safety trianlges out. A trooper slowed way down as he went by and gave me a thumbs up.

My only real driving ticket was at the I-81 off ramp in Carlisle PA........right in front of the Flying J in 2003. I don't know what the hell I was thinking, but I had thought that the ramp had a caution sign at the bottom. A total brain fart! ( was it a caution at one time?) I slowed and rolled right through the stop sign while checking for traffic coming my way from under the over pass,..... making the right turn and heading towards my Shneider terminal. I didn't get past the "J" before the local cop lit me up. The cop had a pretty nasty disposition.........telling me that I thought I was above stopping for his local stop signs. I played it NICE NICE and let him rant. As I pull out my drivers license, he noticed my military ID. He asked if I was "marines"......I told him no......I was retired Navy. He replied "too bad" and went back to his car. He came back a few minute later and hands me a $75.00 ticket. My bad.......no excuse for something like that.

Nearly every time I've been pulled over it's been in Ohio. About 15 years ago in my four wheeler on my way to my trucking job on SR 2, 67 in a 55, let me off with a warning. About 13 years ago in a big truck on the OH pike, 67 in a 55, let me off with a warning. I've slowed down considerably since those two warnings ;)) Pulled over on an off ramp on the PA pike for a random log book check, leafed through my log book and told me to have a nice day.
Pulled over at the 118 mile post on the OH pike for a road side DOT a few months after 9/11. Found nothing wrong. I asked him if he really thought a terrorist would placard a trailer. He said he knew they wouldn't but he admitted to me they had to do so many DOT inspections per night to keep the politicians happy! Pulled behind eastbound scales coming into OH near the PA line a few years ago for a random haz mat paperwork inspection. Found nothing wrong but he tried telling me I was supposed to notify him that I have my OH CHL, concealed handgun license... I argued with him for a few minutes because OH law CLEARLY states that we only have to notify law enforcement about our CHLs IF we are carrying our weapon, I wasn't due to company policy, I showed him the booklet from our attorney general with the laws in it ;)) I was surprised he didn't end up "finding" something to ticket me for since I had the "nerve" to tell him he was wrong about the CHL reporting ;))

This wasn't a "moving violation" but I got a ticket in NC one night. I had taken my full break about a mile from the Kings Bay paper mill to make sure I had the hours to get all the way home. I was to drop & hook for a pre-loaded trailer and deliver it to Franklin Va. and head home from there about 40 miles away. My daughters wedding was the next day and I was already behind schedule to get home for the preparations. It was pretty late at night.

I drop the MT and hook onto the pre-loaded trailer. I had saw that the tandems slid all the way to the rear............no biggie.. right? I look inside and see 3 rolls in the nose and 2 in the rear. I am thinking......... "who in the hell loaded this thing". I try and pull the pins to slide the tandems all the way forward.......no go. (stuck) Rock back and forth a little..........no go. Beat the pins with a hand sledge.........no go. Beat the pins with sledge and WD40..........no go. I took the linkage pins out and beat again.........No GO. I was getting pretty mad and cussing out every trailer that Schneider had in the fleet.....:biggrin_25518: I went back to the guard shack to see if the guard would call the docks to adjust the rolls for me.......No go........off till 7am.

Got got to a CAT scale up I-95. 1150 over on the drives or something like that, gross was fine.

Got on the radio and talked with a few drivers that just pulled into the truck stop......... Savannah scales open, and the Hardeeville scales just across the border were closed. I knew my way around the Savannah scales & and decided to go for it. The trip was ok until I reached the Lumberton NC scales. A accident had closed the exit I was going to use to get off.

I roll up onto the scales and got the usual invitation to pull around with my paperwork........yada yada yada. I get inside and a very bored looking DOT guy at the counter barks out the weight, and tells me to adjust the weight. I told him that I had fought with the pins for a 30 minutes with no luck. He seemed very friendly, and starts asking me why I would risk a fine etc. etc. I told him about my daughters wedding. I also saw a "Boatswainsmate" tattoo on his arm and casually mentioned it. He asked if I was "in" and I told him that I was a retired engineman. He chuckled and said "you #### snipes are all the same"....and winked. He said I gotta write you up......you understand that right? I said....oh yeah. We were chatting back and forth about his upcoming retirement and fishing while he was writing. He finishes the ticket and hands it over with my paperwork, and then tells me to get the hell outta his scale house.......and to give the daughter a hug. I was a little dumbfounded but turned around and walked out. As I am walking back to my truck, I saw that the ticket was a warning for the defective release. I couldn't believe it. A total crap night turned into something else in the matter of minutes. The sun was beginning to come up, and I was about 4 1/2 hours from home.

That was the 2nd to last load I pulled for Schneider before getting out of the business dues to my wife's illness. I loved pulling for them.....but they did have a lot beat up trailers that I don't miss at all.
