Not my style...I leave that to the other jerks. lol
SSB is great for shooting skip, if for no other reason, you don't need a bunch of power to do it...That said, I'm not a fan of SSB radios either in the mobile, mainly because with SSB, usually your going to be constantly using the Clarifier to fine tune stations in...In a mobile while driving, that's almost as bad as Texting on a cell phone.

I agree on that. But, it's fun to drive up on top of a mountain in the mobile and park and then shoot skip with the big boys! If you are real industrious you can rig up a ground plain set up with the spare tire and a little weight. We used a 20' or so pole with a CushCraft Ringo back in the day. An Antron would be the way to go now. There was usually an ice chest involved back then too.
Heck, we did it at night and with just a little power talked ground wave up to 70 - 80 miles or more on AM. Awwww, the good ol' days!
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Yeah, sitting and talking is one thing...but driving and trying to talk on SSB is another...

I got the bearcat 980 ssb cb and hooked it up with my tc-300 linear. My dk on the 980 is about 3 and when I key the mic and let go the amp relay stays locked in and cb goes to rx full out with static and stas like that until the amp is shut off or the inline fuse for amp blows. Why is this? Please help

Is the middle switch put to the I or the 0?
-
The switch to the left is up the rest are down cause I was trying it on am. But also put middle switch up and tried lsb and it does the same thing. I have it the same way as. I. Do with my cobra 29 lx except the middle on cause the cobra isn't sideband
