I finally finished up the hiring process and start tomorrow. It's taken almost a month to get through the on boarding process and I'm confident that it'll be worth the wait. I'm going to be working out of the Karns City terminal in western Pa. I would like to thank wsyrob, and rubberducky68 for taking the time to document their experiences both good and bad while working for this company. Prior to reading their threads I was convinced that I would have to "pay my dues" by driving for a mega for a couple of years to build experience. I new before I even went to cdl school that I wanted to do tankers and I live very close to Schneider's Coraopolis terminal and was prepared to go there after graduation which still would've been better than what most new drivers do. My school (Sage) never heard of Superior Carriers even though, as I later found out, they're on Superiors approved school list so had I not read these forums I'd be driving for Schneider now.

If anyone is interested, I'd be willing to document my training here as I haven't seen anyone on here who has worked from this terminal. It's pretty remote to say the least. The office only has three people, the terminal manager and two dispatchers, and it seems to be pretty laid back. The TM actually built this terminal years ago. The one thing he kept emphasizing was to be honest and upfront with everything. If I mess up, fess up! He told me that mistakes happen and that the company will work with you if your honest about things but if they catch you lying your done. Most of the trucks out of here have chains in them but they are only to be used to get yourself out of bad conditions, not to get into them. The rule of thumb is, if you need chains, you shouldn't be driving in it. They'd rather the load be late than spilled along the highway.

I was told that that I would train for about a month then would go to Greer for a week of hazmat training. After returning, I would then be assigned my own truck but would stay in my home terminals area for another month before being released into the system. Training pay is $100 per day for the first eight hours, then $13 per hour there after. That's all I really know at this point. Super excited to get started!

Welcome aboard. I think you made a good choice over Schneider. Probably about 10K better. Looking forward to reading about your adventures.

Welcome, Karns City is definitely in the middle of nowhere, and can be a pita to get to especially this time of year, but they're a pretty good terminal based on my dealings with them.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing how the trainers you work with do things.

Congrats and please do keep us posted. I am working my way back into the field and just spoke with SC today, so anything that you would be willing to offer I will be listening.

Learning to drive tankers in PA is probably the best you could ask for. If you can handle the narrow roads, rolling hills, valleys and twisty roads in PA, you can drive anywhere. I drove for Schneider out of Cory and it wasn't bad but you definitely made the right decision to go with Superior. Good luck!

Ok, day one is in the books. Lots of paperwork and I watched a hazmat video. My trainer is a great guy and we hit it off really well. He's been here for 15 years and has been training for 8. Got to talk to a driver from the Atlanta terminal while waiting for his load to be ready. He was showing me the paperwork that needs to be done. Another really nice guy. Seems like everyone is willing to help out the new guys which was nice to see. Tomorrow looks like another day of paperwork plus I'll get the tour of the maintenance facility and tank wash. Friday will probably be my first load and I was told to bring an overnight bag just in case. Really looking forward to getting out on the road.

Het Arpoc, sounds like a good company! How is the starting pay? Are the health benefits good?

Starting pay is $100 for the fist 8 hours then $13 per hour after. Once you go on your own, all drivers make the same so you'll be making the same as a 20 year veteran. Right now they are paying $.50 loaded and $.40 unloaded plus you get lots of extra pay for things like loading, unloading, layover, etc. They even pay you $10 if you have to sleep in your truck. Healthcare is PPO Blue but I don't use it as my wife's is better so I'm not sure of the cost. I want to say that it's $75 per week but don't quote me on that. Maybe one of the other drivers on here could give you a better answer.

    lmcclure1220 and mxpx148 Thank this.
