I know i read a thread a year or two ago about who the conway flex board works, but i cannot find it again. Not sure if its a different procedure for p/d and linehaul, if so I am more interested in the p/d side of it. I also noticed there is only a position to apply to for a general truck driver, not distinguished between p/d or line haul.

I wasn't really considering conway at first just because of the flex board. But I'm hearing OT after 8/40, and thats a big plus. Mostly I'm hearing get thru the flex board, and you're good. But id really like to hit 60k while on the flex board, is that possible?

Also, does anyone know the policy on transferring terminals with conway?

I would be applying to a conway in the chicago area, either melrose park, bridge view, or Chicago (36th St). So if anyone has any insights on these terminals, that would be great.

Well I can tell you firsthand what the flex board meant where I lived, in Raleigh. Just what it sounds like, the reason the job description doesn't designate p&d or linehaul is because where I worked you could work both. You will fill in wherever needed. One week could be days doing p&d and the next could be nights filling in for a linehaul driver on vacation. Also I'm not sure about Chicago but I didn't like it because Conway in my area feels they don't need dock workers, they have drivers to do that. Needless to say it wasn't for me. We also didn't get OT until after 50 hours.

Caliavenue has lotsa rats around at night.
Bridge view has a high drug traffic area driving around.

None of the terminals are particularly big. The one down in Salem is probably bigger than them all combined in size. You'll do dock work at ethier or.

Nethier are hard to get to.
Especially if being paid by the hour...

This may be a little off topic but I spoke to a broker at Conway and they said they only deal with OO that have 3 inspection reports. What a bunch of crap. I said I bet you have a hard time moving freight is then, he came up with some bs story of no not really.

Yeah. That's kind of figured as far as flex board does all. Do they switch your pay from hourly to mileage when you do line haul when your on flex board? The only concern to me would be switching from days to nights within the same week....

I worked at Bridgeview. They have a road flex and a city flex, so typically the issue of city for three days, linehaul for two wouldn't happen. City turns, however, do happen, and if you're low enough you could be forced to run to a chicagoland terminal (Aurora, Des Plaines or Gary) after a day in the city. You would be paid on a paysheet so it would be mileage for the linehaul portion and hourly for everything else.

Melrose Park is a busy terminal, so you could have good luck getting there as well.

P+D and dock work pays hourly. Linehaul pays by the mile. Hooking and breaking sets pays by the hour. You clock in to hook your set then clock out. Drive between 50-250 miles then clock back in to break our set and spot your trailers

It doesn't really work like that because of your ten hour reset. Flex board usually starts between 10 am and 1 pm. You do a little P+D then come back and work the outbound dock. If they have a run and you have enough hours they will send you on line haul to turn and burn. You will take a set and drive and then hook a set to return with. Line haul drivers start between 4 and 7 pm. They load pups with city freight and then haul to the hubs where they work the dock for a few hours before returning home. I did flex board for 6 months and made a lot of money. All the guys above me never wanted to do a line run. I would start at 2 pm and be getting off right at 4am. It was tough but it pays well. You can take home $1000 a week if you hustle

You must not have had kronos hawks where you worked.

And hook/drop times go on your 265, not on kronos time..That kills production.

And if you consider 1000/week for 70 hrs and no life good money..then I dunno..Flex-board stinks like a rotten carcass.
